A first?

I think so!

Pushing the envelope of what is possible in vinyl playback, Kronos does it again!!

Battery powered playback.

MUNICH IS COMING . Here is the SCPS-1 we will unveil in Munich. It sits below an unfinished KRONOS PRO. It is so new, we didn't have time to take "official" photos... but let me say that we did have time to listen ☺☺☺. I would safely say that the music reproduced with PRO and SCPS-1 sounds much better than anything I have heard...or dreamed of. It is, in my opinion, a new listening experience.

I can't wait till he makes one for Sparta !

Maybe by them you'll be ready for a pro and give your "old" Sparta to someone ;).

Or better yet...just go pro now and get your battery pack. I know a guy that would come take that Sparta off your hands

Ha ! Bryan I'm still so in love with my Sparta [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]

No not the first

Tw Acustik have had battery power supply for some years now. I actually prefered the standard ac power when I compared.
I am sure others have done it as well.

Those who have heard this (like the Nagra Distributor) told me "easily a 35% improvement".

I hope it is an improvement. I would want to hear the battery ps in my system first.

To say it is a 35% improvememt sounds like hyperbole. Makes the original controller and table sound like it was broken with figures like 35% thrown around - which I am sure it is not.

Not at all. He was giving his opinion and he's the Nagra rep and a recording engineer.

More info...

SCPS-1 from concept to final product... the circuit board was 2 years in development. The management of the power reserve is computer controlled. The chassis is machined from solid billet aircraft grade aluminum. It is nickel plated, as the rest of the turntable.

Just to avoid confusions, SCPS-1 IS NOT A POWER CONDITIONER. It disconnects the turntable from the grid ... and act as a battery... but with no batteries...and with a completely different result due to its extra low output impedence. It isolates at 100% the drive system from the grid...and the grid from the drive system. It has no ripple or fluctuations. It utilizes new technology never used in turntables...as far as we know. ☺☺ Oh yes... , it never runs out of power and you never need to wait for it to charge...except the after it gets turned on.

SCPS-1 is a new technology. It resides between a bigger size new power supply and the turntable. It is connected to the power supply with an umbilical cord. It is basically a super high capacity DC accumulator. It provides truly pure DC power at a very low impedence creating the perfect "motor system". It does not utilize batteries...hence there is no environmental issues or chemical noise issues. The accumulated reserve is in the neighbourhood of 15 x 1000 watt amplifiers. Roughly equal to 1.21 gigawatts? Now where'd I park my DeLorean? [emoji12]

Is it a speed controller or a power supply?

A speed controller certainly could enhance the sound if the speed was off.

But someone needs to explain to me how cleaner power helps create better sound, all it does is turn the platters.

Any time you remove micro vibrations, you improve the sound. AC is push pull. Push/pull actions causes vibrations, ripple, fluctuations. Any vibration affects the needle in the groove. You're also not sending dirty power back into the motor like with AC. It is more pure than a battery too. The impedance is also ultra low. It's like an amp not being able to control woofers. There is no noise of anything going to the turntable. This is not a battery - it is much more. Two banks of capacitors. When one is being used the other is being charged. The banks are completely separate. As one is charging, the other is being used. Switching every 60 seconds. The challenge was to get the two banks to replace each other so they make no sound and you never need to change anything or anything. It is not a battery because the impedance of a battery is not good enough. Only when you understand the affect of micro vibrations affect on the needle in the groove, only then can you understand the positive affects of removing all these little vibrations.

How much better is the pro over the sparta?

If it is any less than 35%, upgrading the power supply on the Sparta will make it a better sounding table than the Pro.
