Corresponded with Kenneth but wanted to check with Lumin users who have his PS. What are the improvements you experienced and how dramatic were they? Particularly interested in anyone using with U1. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can share!

I'd be interested as well. I was a little confused by an exchange of correspondence with Kenneth about a U1 power supply not that long ago. I was under the impression that it (the U1) used the same power supply as the S1. Kenneth indicated "Actually, the power supply design of the T1/A1/S1 is the same. And for the U1, it is a bit simple than others." So I have temporarily put it on hold for now.

For Lumin original power supplies, U1 and S1 came with the same power supply.

What Kenneth Lau said may be referring to his own versions, i.e. his U1 power supply is designed differently.

He did not indicate it was on hold to me. Maybe Kenneth will see this, I'll shoot him a note.

Great idea - the exchange I got confused me. With no website or info to look at (I initially sent him an email and did not get a response and then joined the Computer Audiophile just to PM him) it makes it hard to get info.

Me is a user of Kenneth Lau's U1 LPS. Kenneth Lau explained to me that, whereas A1 and S1 required three sets of DC supply, U1 only two sets. Inside the U1 LPS, there are still two silver-plated transformers, and two sets of circuit boards (instead of three sets).

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the clarification and info. Can you tell us something about the sound of the U1 with the Kenneth Lau power supply vs. the standard one?

Would anyone happen to know the DC output and amperage of a power supply for the S1/A1/T1. I have a Kenneth Lau PSU that I am selling on Ebay, and a potential buyer wants to know this info. As I intend to buy the X1 in the near future this PSU will be redundant to me.

Lumin power supplies have two +12 and a -12V output. Lumin S1 U1 power supplies are exactly the same, improved from original A1 / T1 power supplies.

Note that Kenneth Lau U1 power supply is different - it can only be used on a U1 but not on any other Lumin. For details about Kenneth Lau power supplies I think you'd need to ask him.

Thank you once again. Yes, this PSU was designed for use with S1.

Hello
I have been using the U1 for a while now , and excellent product , without ny flaws
Will another PSu bring something different ? Why not
But it is as important to have a clean Ethernet into the U1
I believe that it's the first thing to do ..
Then the PSU .. etc
Cheers

(PS : I have a PLIXIR conditionner at the end of the PSU with is very nice , and cleaned quite a bit .. again to ponder )

Although I am using an S1, I have also used a Chord DAVE with the S1 as well. I then tried the Kenneth Lau PSU with both the S1 on its own and S1 and DAVE. The Kenneth Lau PSU definitely adds a different sound when the S1 was just used as a streamer. Anyone who finds the sound of the S1 slightly harsh (I cannot comment on the U1) with certain types of music will probably appreciate its use. However, for me, now that I use a Trilogy 933 headphone amplifier with my Focal Utopia headphones I have settled for the S1 PSU.

here a S1 with Kenneth Lau PSU.

nice product, silber kabel between PSU and S1....greatss

Hello folks
My Lumin PSU for the U1 is broken
I will send it to Lumin for repair
Before buying the Kenneth Lau PSU (which is quite expensive) , I'd like to wait to know whether the new Lumin PSU is compatible with the U1(and obviously the price)
Futhermore , I'd appreciate some comments from those who have the K Lau PSU with U1 .. advantages etc
What puts me down on Mr Lau's PSU is the DESIGN ...
I think that Lumin makes fantastic chassis , and I don't know how visually the K Lau PSU marries with Lumin
Thanks for some advice and pictures
Cheers

I used to own LUMIN A1. I prefer to use default LPS than switching to after-market LPS. Switching to other LPS is matter of preference in sounding. In my opinion, get the LPS fixed by LUMIN.

Have I heard KL LPS before? Yes, I heard it paired with A1 and S1 when I was in HK. I used to own KL LPS too, hence same opinion like rest of the after-market LPS namely Teddy Pardo, Plixir Elementa. Plixir Elite, Jay Audio etc.

If you wish to push your U1 slightly further, consider switching out that piece of default DC cable to silver based DC cable. Last, spend the budget on a higher quality after-market power cord for U1.

hello
Thanks Tiktotape
Where can I find the silver base DC cable ?
Cheers
You can consider KL’s silver DC cable so long KL knows the specification.

Otherwise, bring your DC cable to any local well known agent to custom for you. For suggestion on silver cable, Neotech multi stranded is suffice.
