I just purchased a new ethernet network switch. It is the Netgear Nighthawk S8000. This product is designed around the desire of gamers to reduce latency. (The spec sheet of the manufacturer includes latency comparisons with switches by other manufacturers). BTW, I am not a gamer although I may be tempted to try since I do have a powerful gaming computer connected to my system.

My old network switch was a fairly inexpensive Monoprice switch that I had been using for years. This switch was very reliable, although once in a blue moon I would experience dropouts.

What appealed to me about getting a new switch is that I am now streaming more and more 4k videos. The Nighthawk S8000 switch lets me prioritize each port independently. So in my case, I have given top priority to the ports connected to my audio streaming and my video streaming devices. The intent is that if for whatever reason all connected devices are demanding bandwidth above what is available, the switch will keep the audio/video going and slow down (or stop) the others. The port priorities can be changed on the fly via a phone app. The new switch also allows the user to turn off all lights in the device, like a stealth mode which I do prefer.

I installed the switch last night. I played music with it for a bit, and while I did notice a change in the sound, I do not attribute it to the switch since I recently purchased new furniture and have changed the furniture configuration/location in the room.

In any event, if you are experiencing an occasional dropout, are streaming 4k videos, or like the idea of a stealth device that does not call attention to itself, you should take a look at this switch. It is not too expensive either (about $100).

Since I bought the switch, I bought a new projector that can stream at 4k HDR resolution and also added a new audio streaming device (Raspberry Pi).
With the change of equipment I decided to adjust the bandwidth priority for all the devices connected to the switch. I upgraded the streaming video (Apple TV) priority to "Critical" (from "High"), kept audio streaming devices at "High" priority and all non streaming devices to "Low". The Netgear ethernet switch works beautifully to make these changes through their web-based switch controls.

I have 2 silent Angel bonn’s d8 in serial, both switches feeded by the Silent Angel Forester. on the second switch, the output network cable to the streamer
