I am sure there are some guys chuckling about this, but I am seriously blown away with the sound of these speakers in my living room. Since my Counterpoint died, I am using my Stratos+ with the VAC pre. I never had sound fill the room like this, even with my Dyns and Clearfields.
Not bad for $100

So after living with these for a week, I have some impressions and findings. After reading lots of old reviews and comments, I pulled the grills off. Hard to imagine that after designing such a good speaker that they would then veil the sound with this complex and intrusive thick plastic lattice covering. The sound changes dramatically when removed.
I will first note that these do not blow away the field, but sound surprisingly good for speakers almost 50 years old. I would say my only few complaints are the height which means they sound their best when you are seated, but stand up and the sound is below you. When seated, you are immersed in the sound and good separation. The bass is deep and can be felt in your bones, but could be a little tighter and more controlled. (I am using a Stratos amp which I would say leans more bass heavy than Mids to Highs) That said, both my wife and I feel that we are hearing some percussion detail and background stuff we were not so aware of.
Newer well recorded disks sound really good while older rock disks also sound surprisingly good. Supertramp Crime of the Century was the last disk I spun and I was buried in the sounds.
I wish I could have heard them with my Counterpoint and am curious to see what something new like the Luxman I am still aiming for will sound like.
My bet would be if someone was sat down in front of these blindfolded and told they were speakers costing between $4k and $8k they would believe it. The inflation calculator says these would be about $2K in today's money.
