Hi all-

Newbie here that has an HT system that wants to upgrade Mains and Improve stereo sound.

My current system is...
NAD AVR 757
Marantz CD
Sonos
Peachtree Dac IT x
AppleTV
Dyno 50 L/R
Dyno 122 C
Meridian Surround in ceiling speakers

I have a small house so only bookshelf speakers will work. I am looking at Thiel SCS4 4 ohm as new mains the sound stage rocks for me and in my budget.

I have heard them with the NAD Power Amp (the NAD 757 does not have enough juice to do them justice)
Thought I was set until I stumbled on this site and have been doing a lot of reading...

The Job 225 is getting rave reviews on this site. Thoughts on matching with Thiel that are also neutral

The mINT is more than I need as an integrated amp. However my assumptions are that the DAC would be an improvement on the DAC-it. And I know I want to get more into High Res Audio (have a Mac Pro Laptop).

I am looking to also upgrade my Sonos via Wyred4sound.

Looking for thoughts on direction I am going...

Thanks

Cathy (yes a gal not many on this site just saying)

Welcome to the forum Cathy aka jccat!

Thank you for joining!

I have the Job 225 and a Wyred4Sound modified Sonos and love them both. I am not familiar with the Thiel speakers impedance but it they drop much below 3 ohms and are very inefficient, the Job might have trouble.

Based on these specs:

Impedance: 4 ohm (3 min)Sensitivity (2.83v – 1m, true anechoic): 87dB

The Job should be fine as long as you don't crank the heck out of the speakers.

I don't know much about the JOB so can't comment on this topic.

But Welcome to AS :hi:

Hi Cathy welcome to the shark! The girls will come when they find out how nice we are, as long as Bob doesn't start leg humping them :( :sneaky: cmalak Cyril is our experienced resident Thiel expert," PAGING CYRIL"!

Nice... Thanks Big Blue!

Joe- What improvements will I notice in the Sonos upgrade with my current rig?

Thanks for the warm welcome :-)

Paul, you shouldn't have, thank-you

Our pleasure.

The Sonus upgrade will have less jitter and a cleaner sound. It will improve imaging and detail while being smoother on the ear. I think the 24/96 version is their best sounding unit. It will upsample standard audio to 24/96 before being decoded by your dac.

The Job is clean and articulate with a very natural voice. I think Thiel has a reputation of being highly resolving. Sometimes too much of a good thing is no good but you'd have to hear it and decide for yourself. I have SF Evos, which are warm and forgiving, and the Job makes them sing beautifully. I also have TAD CR-1's which are very precise and revealing and the Job does a great Job (Ha!) of taming them. So personal preference comes into play here.

Thanks Joe!

That is the best explanation I have heard on which version to pick. I am in the learning phase so appreciate the detail.
I am sure there are others reading/learning too that will benefit!

I use my Sonos with an exteranl dac and could not be happier with the results. I can play ripped redbook (cd) from my computer or nas and stream MOG, Pandora, Amazon cloud, and Spotify as well as many other services. You also have access to literally thousands of radio stations at your fingertips. I control it with my cell phone. There are apps for both iPhone and Android.

Pleas do not be shy. There's still a lot that I don't know but everyone chimes in and helps out.

Welcome to AS Cathy.
I hope there are more girls out there just haven't come forward. Hope you opened the door.

Welcome Cathy!

I've had a couple different Wyred products over the years and have been very impressed with them. They also have great customer service which is a nice thing these days. The mINT is a nice amp in a small package and the fact that it is capable of running digital files without a separate DAC is a plus if you're looking for an all-in-one solution. They have a trial program which allows you to listen in your home (a good thing) and return it if you don't like it with only a 5% fee, plus shipping.

Hi all-

Well I have pulled the trigger and ordered the SCS4 in amber wood! will take a little longer to come in since I went with custom finish not stock finishes. I went back several times to listen to them and had them moved to the room where the AVR receiver I have is... The sound is not where I want it amp wise in comparison but was blown away what these speakers did with movies. I had them turnoff center and no sub. these 2 boys can rock a movie... Now I have a 1200 sq ft house so listening room has to do both. I decided not to wait for the new bookshelf based on specs and I know I love the sound of these speakers...

Long term plan will be to add another amp for the thiels for music. Am seriously looking at the sonos mod as next step as smaller purse purchase...

Question for all you fine gents... Since the Thiels will revel the good and the bad in a recording... what type of amp should I stay away from?? If this was wine I would know to pair an old cab sav with a rich risotto and not a tomato based dish... but pairing of the sound of a speaker with the right amp sound... well i need some guidance...
