Jeff's System

Ok, thank you... I have looked at device settings before but never got into those settings :)....

I love your system.

Can you tell me how you like the MC301 amps? These are on my radar as well.

Recently replaced my Devialet 220 Pro with a McIntosh C47 and MC301 mono blocks. I'm currently using my Ayre Codex as a DAC.

TO DO: Find my end game DAC and then maybe move up to the C1100 preamp.

Well I really don't have any experience with any other mono blocks for comparison. I demoed the MC152 and decided I wanted a bit more power and quad balanced because it's all the rage. I didn't have the room for the MC452 and my dealer and I both thought it would be a bit much for the Sabrinas so the MC301s were the next option.

In all honesty I built my system a bit backwards. I went a little lower end on the preamp and usually that's where you shouldn't skimp.

Back to the MC301s, in comparison they go quite a bit deeper and have more control than the MC152 and the MAC6700 I demoed, that's about all I can tell you, beside they are obviously not as tight and fast as my previous Devialet.

Well I had previously tried pre-converting my flac files to DSD, but space and filtering always made me go back to the flac files. I have to play around with it a bit but doing the up converting and filtering from within Roon seems to work nice. Plus it converts all to DSD256 on the fly which is nice.

I have never tried HQ Player. I hear it is pretty nice, but takes some serious computer power and configuring to get the best out of it. But, it appears as if the capabilities are being done pretty darn well from within Roon so maybe HQ Player is really not needed at this time.

If you are bored one day, HQPlayer is worth trying but it has WAY more options and combinations to try. It can get a bit overwelming. HQPlayer was way better sounding than Roon when DSPing was first added to Roon but Roon has slowly caught up. Now it's a particular filter in HQPlayer like poly-sinc-xtr, modelled after Chord DACs that would make someone use it.

Thank you so much. I had Devialet and it was great at first but got tiring over time.

I love the McIntosh system. Thanks!

Test drove am ARC LS28 this last weekend.

Huge center image and sound stage overall. So much so I felt I should tweek the toe-in on my Sabrinas but didn't. Crazy. Way more top end extension than my current C47.

Ultimately I felt the overal precision and placement of instruments was a little veiled. Bottom end didn't have the punch and attack of the SS. But oddly the extra top end extension is what my sensitive ears didn't like.

Awesome setup. I would be interested to hear the Mirus Pro. I have the Benchmark DAC 3 which uses the same chip in a rather different configuration.

Another cold weather friend I see. Mirus is sitting patiently right now as I play with the Yggdrasil.
