Jeff Beck passed away today. Sigh.

He was my favorite guitarist of all time and his brilliance as a player and innovator on the instrument along with his music has provided me with a lifetime of musical happiness.

There will not be another like him any time soon. I think the best way for me to describe how I feel about Jeff is…..

When I was a younger rock guitar-living lad, I was all things Hendrix. I had all his albums of which I played ad nauseum, posters on the wall, most bootlegs, spent hours attempting to play his licks (Ha!), etc. and even to this day still “air guitar” left-handed.

With all due respect to Jimi, after I heard Jeff Beck’s cover of “Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers” (IMHO possibly the greatest studio guitar track I have ever heard by anyone), Hendrix didn’t seem so cool to me anymore. From that day on (I now have all of Beck’s albums of which I play ad nauseum, posters on the wall, most bootlegs, spend hours trying to play his licks (Ha! Again.), etc. etc. etc.) he was my top guy.

Although I still air guitar left-handed since I am so used to it. 😉 So, Jimi still has it over Beck in that realm.

Anyway...

Thank you Jeff for a lifetime of musical excellence.

You will be missed.

I still listen to Jeff Beck on a regular basis. At home or in my car with Tidal. No one had such a control on tempo and delivery. I went to see him in Seattle at the Paramount theater when "Blow by Blow" came out just to hear "Cause we ended as lovers". A lasting memory was how simple and at ease he was playing on stage. I felt like he could have read a book while he played. What a master. His "Live at Ronny Scott's" video is just one of the best performances to watch. He will be missed.

Jeff Beck's Wired was one of the first LP's I bought. I was in Junior High, I bought the album on an older guy's recommendation. I had heard nothing like that before. A great talent. Many years of Lead Boots.
