I also like Paul Izak (albums available through Bandcamp). Like many others, we were introduced to his music at the Sunday Kailua Farmers' Market, where he has been a fixture for several years

Please...I have more chance of being struck by a meteorite than being struck by the mood to listen to Hawaiian music. Maybe you have to live there to appreciate it. Go native and all that stuff.

I hear Hawaiian music goes well with Maui Wowie, not that I would know about such things :) With Ry Cooder playing along its very good in small doses and the SQ of this record is near reference level.

I thought it was Kona Gold. I think I heard Willy Nelson talking about it on Howard Stearn. Willy lives in HI and pretty much stays stoned from what he says. The only Hawaiian song I ever liked was the one from Christmas Vacation and it was sung by Bing Crosby:

AFAIK, Mr.Nelson still owns a home in Spreckelsville.

I frequently see him at Maui Country Club.

I guess I lump all of the islands into HI. I have only been to HI once and it was on the way to Thailand back in 1973.

I've spent a lot of time in Kauai and I loved the Hawaiian music there. It's all about absorbing the Polynesian culture and the music is part of it. My wife and I were never as relaxed as we were there. It always leaves us with a warm feeling inside. A healing place for the body, mind and soul.

Speaking of healing, how are you doing?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for asking. Four weeks since the shoulder fracture. The doctor says it's healing properly and I can use the sling on an "as needed" basis. But I have almost no range of motion with the upper arm. I'll start physical therapy next week and hopefully start getting the strength and flexibility back.

Happy New Year!

We try to go once a year and we love the culture its people and their music. Heck we head back to Maui late Jan for 2 weeks. And Ken you are so spot on. When your there you are so relaxed

Glad to hear you are on the mend Ken. You will get your strength and flexibility back and I hope it comes quickly for you.
