James Garner Passes Over ..

Saw him as Pete Aron in "Grand Prix" (1966) on BBC Two today. Shown before highlights of the Formula 1 German Grand Prix. The film also included Graham Hill as Bob Turner. The film was slated at the time, but is a perfect time capsule for some of the courses and their corresponding lack of safety. Apparently Garner was one of the few actors who could actually drive a racing car proficiently.
 
He seemed like a nice guy. I liked him in the Rockford files and in many of his films when I was growing up.
 
I have many good memories of watching and enjoying James on TV and in films. One of my favorites was "The Great Escape". My grandfather loved watching "cowboy" shows on TV……He and I would watch "Maverick" together.

I enjoyed watching Maverick. Garner along with Jack Kelly playing Bart Maverick made for good TV.
