It's really only about the music.

Because of the time, research, and money I have invested in what I consider to be a high quality stereo system, I sleep better at night knowing I am listening to all the music as the recording artist intended. Life is to short to cut myself out of hearing all the music.

And what's wrong with that? I can't think of anything. The whole point like I stated is it doesn't matter what one has invested in gear if they are happy with it for themselves. It's about enjoying the music without being told that one can't enjoy the music because they did not spend xx amount of money or doesn't use the same gear as the next guy or anything that takes away from that.

Yes Eric, of course, but isn't it enrapturing to learn about what's better out there than we can really afford?

Because we'll never be truly satisfy until we know for sure that we have the best of the best and that it'll last just a very brief moment.

And if it is someone else who has the best because he/she is truly passionate (even more than us) about this fantastic love audio/music listening affair, then we can encourage him/her even further, rejoice with him/her in his/her happiness, and dream ourselves with the knowledge of higher learning, limitless audio horizons, all in the pursuit of a fantastic musical trip.
That's the true positive passion.

Ok, I'm missing something here Bob. It just doesn't make any sense to want what one can't have or may not even want. It's perfectly ok for someone else to have said thing(s) or chase after them because they may have the means and there's nothing wrong with that, is there? If it brings joy in their lives then it is serving them well and they can share it as much or as little as they like.
I don't understand what your saying about someone having the best being truly passionate about music. It sounds to me like the rest of us are not allowed to be truly passionate or can't be passionate about music because we don't have the best or most expensive gear whether we can afford it or not. Isn't gear really just an opinion to the ear of the beholder? One person's best is another person's lackluster or what have you. Could you please provide some further clarity on that?

No, you're not missing anything Eric; we are just talkin'.

I don't care much than what the true measure is in life; music, or not, or anything else (all that jazz).
We all have the equal chance to visit the best audio shows and to listen to some of the best systems.

At home we have the biggest advantage because WE are the ones who pick the music selections!
And that, is the equilibrium of life itself; freedom. ...Plus our own decors and all the things that we surround ourselves with, including people (family, children, lovers, friends, and all).

All I'm saying as I thought I did at first, is that music is it's own entity so to speak. We all connect with it on a deeply personal level and we do it whether it's on a transistor radio, a pair of earbuds and a phone, a live event or a $100k system. There is no dollar amount or particular gear requirement (outside of the necessary gear to play the chosen format for the overstated obvious) to connect to the music.

Count me one that does not connect with music played on a transistor radio, Bose Wave radio, earbuds, iPod, etc. I do connect with live music and music played back on my home stereo system which sounds accurate and natural.

The artist, the musician, the singer, the band, the orchestra is who the one(s) I'm connecting with; through their intonation, musical chords vibrating mine, their message, spoken words, tempos of rhythmic wisdom, impacting power, ...auditory, visually, emotionally, spiritually, peacefully, and harmoniously.

* Live musicians, singers, small jazz bands, blues bands, classical orchestras at halls, operas, chorales, classical live chamber music, folk singers, world music, new age, at smaller venues, coffee houses, dancing clubs, cabarets, small bar tunnels, back alleys, back streets, caverns, some smaller theaters, lounges, by the lakes, ...yes, big time connection there and wit; the most immense connections.

Live rock, metal, heavy metal, hip-hop, punk, rap, country&western, easy listening, diva, pop concerts at stadiums, arenas, discotheques, gymnasiums, conference auditoriums, open air; no.

At home through my main speakers, of course; all the great quality music recordings that I truly love, but no comparison with Live music still. ...Reproduced versus created lived, improvised; just ain't the same.
But! Some systems are pretty good, and even better than live bands! ...The type of music bands who totally sucks when live at stadiums and bad rock joints, and even at studios with all those bad mixes and loops and voice-overs and repetitive lines and simple plain bad taste of what music is or should be about for some people. ...Rage, and similar yelling and complaining and crying and revolting and opposing and profaning.

- Once in a while, when in the right ethereal disposition, with the right music, it can be truly spooky and on a higher dimensional plane, connective/consciously speaking.
There is no abso!ute explanation; it just happens, at the most unexpected moments in time and space, magic!

Precisely! I have experienced what you say many many times. Through all of that Bob, it is the music you connect with via the skills of the artist. The message and/or feeling and/or story and/or event is what we connect with. It can be one or all of those things. The technical term (or metaphysical term if you will is "Resonate"). That's the power of music and what we connect to. As you know music is used for more than just dance. It is used for communication (it is actually a form of communication), healing, spiritual connection on many levels, mood altering even meditation, etc.
That's why it is challenging to make that same connection at big concerts and certainly with styles you don't resonate with. I know I can't do it at concerts even with my favorite artists. While I certainly enjoy the live performance of any style and artist I happen to like, I can't make the same connection as I do in more intimate settings and of course, at home. It also depends on the artist too though. I've been to concerts in large buildings or church halls were the connection was intense! That artist designed it to be in all hope. For instance, I attended a Prem Joshua concert and if you weren't making connection then you were dead. The type of music and the way the artist presented it made for the environmental change within the space to be such to as to be conducive to it. There is another example, Tori Amos: She had this strange ability to do that with large concert venues. Never any dry eyes walking out of her concerts. I don't know how she did it, but I have an idea of how....maybe. So I'd say a fair portion of it is dependent on the artist as well as how we accept them and relate.

Yeah, the music of course.

But words are also powerful, poetry, words without music, words without borders.

And acting too, in movies, in theaters, from the actors/actresses, from the performers, comedians, jugglers, clowns, mimes, trapeze artists, all type of creative artists from circus troupes, ...and the music soundtrack from the music composer and his orchestra and the choir and all in sync with the onscreen visuals.

Music is a medium, songs are a medium, singing words are a medium, spoken words are a medium, and they all have something in common; conveying the artist/artisan/composer/poet/philosopher's emotional message in a bottle.

Painting, sculpture are also art forms; visually, with texture, that you can also touch, and they too convey a message, visual, transcendental, reflect an impression, a sentiment, institute a state-of-mind, a special moment in time. ...And it perpetuates in time travel and at different geographical spaces and places.

I do include words (lyrics) within music. After all, with the exception of instrumentals, words are an intricate part of the message or communication of music.
