Is Pono All It's Cracked Up To Be?

Now that's a train wreck if I ever saw one. Everyone with a keyboard is an instant expert. That piece is so bad, where do you even begin?

This is all you need to read of this 'review:"

"No amount of testing made 192kHz/24-bit FLAC audio sound noticeably better than high-quality MP3."

That certainly caught my eye too. I think someone forgot to tell the the blinders go over the eyes and not the ears! :)

The bigger question is why do all these fly by night operations feel like they have to gang up on Neil?

I don't understand the controversy over the Pono. I like the fact that it is a portable player that does hirez and uses SD cards to store music. It has a reasonable price and I am sure that it sounds much better than cell phones and Ipods.

I have seen Neil Young on the talk show circuit talking about Pono and why he made it. He readily admits that some people don't get hi fidelity music and are not music lovers. They can't or don't want to hear the difference between MP3 and Hi Rez. My son has a friend whose father bought a top of the line Bose system and he says he can't hear the difference between my reference system and his. It took several months of my son making him listen to my system for him to finally say he could hear the difference.

I for one am glad the Pono is available and that maybe MP3 will die or at least take a back seat. For a while it looked like hi fidelity was going to die. Now with the resurgence of vinyl and excellent sounding cheap DAC's and audio gear it looks like Hi-Fi is having a renaissance again.

It's amazing how for a person who is supposed to be a technical editor, Pogue is so clueless.

Talk about drinking the Hans Fantel kool aid!

For me the best thing about PONO are the HiRez versions of Neil's music. He's a musician's musician and has been the soundtrack of my life.

Played some of his HiRez music on my PONO through my home rig last night. It sounded much better than CD's (ripped) to my ears.

Anybody who says they can't tell the difference between MP3 and 24/192 has no credibility. End of story.

I think that this pono is a medioker product endorsed by a big name. This makes it a target to attack. Having owned many daps and loving headphones and speakers it's easy to see why forums like this One and other speaker mostly act as they do. If this was a product out of Japan or China it would be getting near zero posting.
Lets move on its an ok product nothing earth shattering or even worth posting about

So, you've tried one?

PS- It's not just about the Pono player, it's also about high resolution audio vs Redbook.

PPS- Please try using a spell checker.

Why do people who disagree with me resort to being childish. Fairy tails from grade school.
I am a believer of hirez just not so much in portible audio as there is almost no need for this .
Why pono does not play dsd is a big fail in the feature rich dap market.
Now I still feel this pono is a non starter other than its name brand backer
now if there is any mis spellings. Do as dogs do get my point

Hahhaaha this is for the link. But it is seriously low on meneory for the dsd task. And it should have an external Memeory slot or two.
Sorry for the misundertanding
is that a word
