For the U.s.
I assume most cities are close to the same. We have street take overs, groups and individuals who think they can go into a store and walk out with whatever they want, groups who roam neighborhoods at night breaking into cars, etc. It's getting to chaos. We had a group of minors who were caught trying cars who were just returned to their parents. Same if curfew is broken. Society seems to be breaking down. I think part of it is lack of accountability. The groups who break into cars are armed. We've had people who tried to stop the break ins be shot at. One guy who shot the persons breaking into his car was charged with murder. It will be interesting to see if a jury of his peers will find him guilty. We've had large groupls of teens take over and attempt take overs of recreational facilities, like Sky Zone type businesses. We recently had hundreds of teens mob the streets around a popular night spot neighborhood. Patrons were asked to remain in restaurants, locked in, until police could disperse the crowd. That's harmful to businesses that will be difficult to correct if ever. Can you imagine being in a restaurant for diner or date and that happen?
I wonder if places like Singapore were onto something with caning? Sounds barbaric? Well should these young people be allowed to break the law and violate other's rights with no consequence? If an actual law is broken it could be possible of consequence the courts are overloaded and often as I stated the persons are let go especially if a minor. Some say more cops, enforce the law etc. Can the courts and jails really handle the load of all teens and would they really worry about a slap on the wrist? Of course, it depends on the charge but it couldn't be much for trespassing or breaking curfew. And, apparently checking for unlocked cars.
You can't deny kids today are different. We got into mischief as kids but nothing like I'm seeing done today. Not all kids are the same I think from what I'm saying you know which ones I'm talking about.
A few whacks with a cane won't kill and it may give the perpetrator something to think about before doing the same thing again.
As a sidenote with all of this going on it amazes me how many people still keep their gun, wallet or other valuables in their car. In the reports these things are reported stolen all the time. Of course, it should be your right to keep your stuff where you want without expecting it to be stolen yet here we are. In 2026 the country shouldn't revert back to the wild wild west.
