Is Amazon taking over the world?

At least now that cardboard cases are the new standard they can't break those. I go back and forth between Amazon and Bullmoose. Bullmoose has a very good selection of used CD's and I have never received a bad one. They are one of the major sponsors of RSD.

Dan, I hear you. I am not a Prime member either so I followed the ups and downs of Amazon's free shipping minimum. I just grouped my purchases and then added something like toothpaste or floss to get to the limit. I am glad they dropped the minimum back to $25.

I live in central CA with several distribution centers nearby. I sometimes find Amazon a little slow getting my package out their door but the next day its at my door. Other times they ship surprisingly fast. Overall I am satisfied with the speed and zero added shipping fees. Prime does not make sense for me.
 
One empirical note was that on Prime Day i looked at several items that I have wanted to purchase - they were actually more costly than the day before.
 
I have noticed the Prime prices are always a bit higher. You have to somehow pay for 'free' shipping. Sometimes they list a non-Prime seller who has free shipping. If so then I will buy that one, and sometimes also save on sales tax. Still, the convenience is worth the couple of extra dollars for Prime. I won't use Amazon Fresh until they get rid of the monthly fee.
 
What I found is that once you become a prime member, you get hooked on the two day free shipping and start doing more shopping online and only shop for prime products even if they cost a little more. Two-day shipping works for me.
Also as a prime member you get Prime Music and Prime Video thrown in. Well worth it in my book.
So, to the OP, yes Amazon is taking over!
 
if you've been to downtown Seattle recently, you will notice that Amazon has taken over the northern part of downtown known as the Denny Regrade area....between Lake Union and Downtown. Amazon has been the single biggest cause of explosive growth in the Seattle area. Seattle has the most construction cranes in the USA and the highest real estate inflation.

personally my wife and I do use Amazon for lots of shopping. we live 30 miles from town in the Mountains and enjoy not having to drive somewhere for many items.

so yes, it does seem that not only is Amazon taking over the wider world, they have taken over my local world too.
 
My Amazon Prime account says I have placed 43 orders in the last 6 months, so yes, I guess you could say I am a fan. The ease of orders and returns is just stupid good. I live about 35 miles from the nearest small town and 75 miles from a small city so one click ordering and two day shipping looks pretty darn good when the alternative is driving a minimum one to two hour round trip and probably not finding what I need anyway! Bug spray, lawnmower blades, oil filters, cd's, clothes, toothpaste......they've pretty much got you covered.

Then there is their Prime video streaming.....well worth checking out. In addition to MANY great series and movies available, Amazon is also producing their own shows....and they meet or exceed anything a cable network can put out. I mean the writing, acting, production are all top shelf. I'm wondering when they'll make some of these available on DVD or Blu-Ray?
