I have to get new internet service and checking to see what is a good minimum speed needed to stream music from Tidal? I will be looking into Roon, HQ player and possibly MQA. I also will have Netflix. Recommendations needed. Thanks.

Don't have one. I'm a snowbird and just returned home and need to get it going. Starting to shop the providers. Just need to have a little info first.

I live in a area where Spectrum bought out Brighthouse Networks. From streaming music from Tidal to movies from Netflix I have NO issues at all with 60mbps and its the basic package.

Music bandwidth requirement is fairly low, about 1 mit/s for CD quality via Tidal.

Video will require more, Netflix has great packing algorithms, but HDTV will require about 8 mbit/s and Ultra HDTV about 20 mbit/s.

FWIW, my speed runs around 3 Mbps and it is not enough for consistent streaming on Tidal.

Great info from all. Thanks.
It seems that most of the programs available start at 25mbs and go up from there.
So from what I'm reading here, I should be good with any of them that they offer.

But then again, Tidal is telling me that the current track I am listening to is FLAC at 1.44 mbs. I have a fiber optic feed at 1 gps. Not sure what is going on. Will defer to the experts.

Tell me about it. I live in the country and the best DSL speed I could get was 4mbps. My home theater guy suggested I get another DSL line and then bridge those one lines to get 8mbps. It worked. And it was expensive. Passing this on to you as an option. I feel like we are now in the 21st century as I have Tidal, reliable NetFlix, etc.

If you give them a call they can probably upgrade you to 100mbps, same price, same equipment, all done over the phone, but you have to ask. I did that a couple of months ago, and now the upload speed has also doubled (didn't have to ask for that, it happened automatically a couple of weeks ago).

I go back to my earlier point. I have a 1 gbs fiber connection. So, fast. But right now I am playing a track thru Tidal and it is MQA and my Lumin is telling me it is MQA, 96khz and 24 bit. Can’t wait to be educated on this. Please be nice:)

Hey Rob, I tried that. They told me, since my "package was with Brighthouse" and my Package ( phone, Cable, internet) is priced accordingly, I would have to move over to Spectrum plan, even though now they are all one company, for the same package I have today cost an extra $29.99 month to get the 100Mbps ( which itself is $44.95 without the package pricing) So I figured since I'm not having any bandwidth issues with streaming Netflix movies or music I'll just stay where I am.
