Insulted Customers Spend More?

That wouldn't be me. If a sales clerk said that to me, I'd tell him/her to stick it where the sun don't shine and walk out.

Listen, there's all types of customers and all types of psychologies. This approach will not appeal to everyone but obviously they feel that they attract more customers and make more money with this approach than with honey.

in a study to be published in October's Journal of Consumer Research. In one of the experiments they found that consumers who were treated poorly by sales staff were willing to pay 10% more than other
really.. The way I feel, if I'm in a car dealer or a furniture store, photography store or a audio store or even looking at golf clubs if the sale person is rude, I'm not going to shop there regardless of the price. With this day and age of being able to log on to the internet and purchase anything including a car sales people need to take a chill pill and play nice or their jobs could be on the short term... Your customer is your soul for survival in any business. You treat them like crap (poor customer service) regardless of some research study and those customers are moving on not to mention " a poor experience gets around, quickly .

I look for a sales person who knows their product and has tastes in sound that run close to mine . Someone who stands by their statements and point of view.

They do not have to be right 100% of the time but they do have to be real about what they believe . I am not easily insulted but once you have done it that will not be a good day . Customers are not always right or the same be honest I have often said this is not what you want to hear but I thing it is what you may need to know. I hope it helps you make a good choice.

+1

Let's see where they are in five years except on The Comedy Channel.

That has been a proven sales method for many years, likely pioneered by Tiffany & Co.
I don't think it's a good one, but it obviously works, mostly on the insecure and/or new rich.

Many years ago I walked into an audio shop called Transcendental Audio in Eggertsville NY(suburb of Buffalo). The owner/salesperson walked up to me and said may I help you? I politely said I would like to look around a bit. He then said rudely we don't allow browsers in here. I responded(not so politely)well kiss my A$$ and walked out. I most likely was going to buy something, but his remark queered the deal.

Now I won't mention any names, but today that same person is one of the finest designers of hi-end amplifiers and preamplifiers. Anyone from Western NY and old enough to remember that far back will know who I'm talking about.

Was that the Walden Ave or Niagara Falls Blvd address? You know you're dating yourself. :)

if there ever was an establishment that could have insulted their clients - and didnt - was Christopher Hansen's (beverly hills store, circa mid 80's). they were in the posh section of Robertson blvd accross the famed Ivy restaurant. The building was historically significant (early hollywood provenance) entering was just as intimidating the decor kinda resembled the munsters set.

i was ~21 when i first stumbled into their store. straight away i met Joe Cali who was an expat new yorker and actor (he played one of travolta's posse in Saturday night fever). between acting gigs he sold hi-fi at Hansens. Chris was just as affable and would 'pitch' anyone that walked through his doors. they named dropped like no other because he could! their client roster was a who's who in entertainment and show business. at the time this was one of the finest audio stores in the US if not the world. I think back to that time and consider it a valuable lesson in business, you treat everyone with equal importance even if they dont 'fit' the mold. i eventually bought my first 'high end' amp from them, a bryston 3b (couldnt swing the Levinson ML11, lol) Joe later opened Levinson's Cello store in LA.
