So I've been having an amplifier issue with my speakers (Sonus Faber Il Cremonese). I've been struggling with my amps (Ayre VX-5 Twenty) and at 125WPC they weren't really controlling the speakers as well as necessary. I had spoken to a few people and they recommended the Pass Labs X350.8. I spoke to Mike and he had recommended either the XA160.8 or the 100.8 or the 350.8. He was offering a pretty good deal on them and I was seriously considering purchasing. Late last night I came across a demo X350.8 that I could't pass up and I was on the phone early this morning trying to grab them before anyone else did. I lucked out - they will be here next Wednesday! I have a Don Sachs preamp on order and just need a good Roon Ready DAC/Streamer to complete the system. Mike recommended the Lumin S1 and I'm doing as much research I can at this point. Considering I have a 10-12 week wait on the preamp, I'll probably have to use the Lumin's volume control until we can get it all hooked up properly if I go that route. I've also heard great things about the Berkeley Alpha DAC Ref 2, but that would require me to use a microrendu for Roon integration, and I wanted to try to find a component that had direct ethernet input for Roon.

Lots of stuff to think about, but all in all, I'm excited to finally hear what these speakers can do!

Congrats. Great to hear your thoughts on the Pass vs Ayre. Heard the x350.8 at my local dealer before and its a fabulous amp.

At 127 Lbs, I'd expect that X350.8 to control your speakers with an iron fist... and probably enough left over to tweak the orbit of the moon a bit. :exciting:

I hear it's a magnificent match for Magnepan, especially multi-panels...... Yeah righto, righto, I'll close the door behind me! :D

Wouldn't that be an aluminum fist? :doubtful::dunno:

Congrats. I am interested in your opinion of the Don Sachs preamp and Pass amp combo. I am thinking of going that route.

What caps did you choose for the DS preamp? I almost ordered one with the Duelunds last year.

I was going to order the Duelunds, but Don talked me out of it. He recommended an Audiocap Theta with a special bypass he uses that he says sounds incredible.

That must be something new. Last year I was going to order it with Jupiter caps but Don recommended the Duelunds. I hope you post a detailed review. I would like to know how it compares to high end preamps.

I'm getting a Linear Tube Audio M2Z to use while I wait for Don to finish his preamp. I'll also be able to compare those two. If anyone wants to come by and help compare them I'm in NJ. Road trip, Joe?

Are you kidding? Absolutely!

I just hope you don't spoil me with the Cremonese. I'll be ruined.
