My current cart the Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua is slowly dying. It has been patched up but it won't last. The dampening rubber has seen better days. Replacing the dampening rubber is not really an option I've been told.

Someone I know, told me a Ikeda 9TT might be a good replacement. Personally I like the sound of a VdH Crimson better but I have been told it doesn't play well with my phono stage.
My other option would be a My Sonic Lab I think.

The MySonic Lab carts are excellent. They build all the carts for Air Tight (who then turns around and charges a lot more). The VdH are also excellent and play way above their price points. Can't go wrong with either IMO.

The distributor of VdH and Octave told me that the VdH Crimson is not a good match with the RCA MC transformer input module of my Octave pre amp. He told me the Ikeda might be nice for me.

Could you tell me a bit about the sonic characteristics of the My Sonic Lab. I have heard them but not often. I'm afraid the Ikeda would be a bit too polite for my taste.

As a long time user of My Sonic Lab cartridges, I can say they are very open and transparent perhaps due to there extremely low internal impedance. The Ultra Eminent EX I use on my Clearaudio Innovation is rated at 0.6 ohm. They are also very dynamic and have excellent imaging qualities. Perhaps this summary in a recent Stereophile sums up the characteristics much better than I could.
