Took a road trip for the holiday to Rushford New York. This is a little historic town near the northwest corner of the state, 2 hours from Lake Erie and Niagara Falls. A friend was given one of the originally built Big Houses for a sum of $5. It was built in 1808 and was the birthplace of NY's 35 Governor, Frank Higgins.

There is much history and past spirits lingering in this old house you could feel it. We slept 15 feet from the birthing room where Higgins was born. I am sure many others were born or died in this house. The house itself is filled with wonderful antiques including a 1941 Anniversary RCA Console, several other consoles and a Victrola (minus the horn). There was also a vintage Sony unit driving a pair of vintage Columbia Speakers that could be end tables. (I can't find any info on these)

Nearby is Rushford Lake, which was created by the power company by damming a creek and flooding out 2 towns completely. There is a horror movie filmed on location called Ghost Lake whereby the people who died as they were flooded return on the 100th anniversary to get back at the town. I have to find and watch this one. They drain the lake down 60% each winter and it is rumored that you can see some of what is left of the old flooded towns.

It also seems to be the place to be for the labor day celebrations, parade and county fair. People come from a 100 mile radius for the festivities.

An hour north we visited the Hidden Valley Adventure Park, which is a mini Safari experience where they take you out in open busses or tractor pulled trailers, and they allow you to feed the beasts. Quite a fun experience. When the animals die or have to be put down, they butcher, package, and sell the game meats which we bought a variety of.

On Monday night we were invited to watch the Fireworks from a backyard a few blocks away from where we stayed and the view we had while the fireworks went off was exactly these buildings. The fireworks were just to the right of the bell tower.
