I am not a Ukrainian. But, the creator of this video is and it should make us all feel like we are. Watch it. Share it. Send it to your representatives. It’s not your problem. True. But all of our collective voices might be part of the solution.

If our shows of support as Europeans and Americans are weaker than Russia’s desire for control, the political ramifications of that will be felt. This simple, but powerful message has not gone viral the way videos of cats and laughing babies do — and it probably won’t, unless we do our best to make sure as many people as possible see it pop up on their news feeds.

This woman is brave and her message is clear. I dare you not to be moved by it.

Thanks for sharing this. Powerful video. Courage to those demonstrating.

Power video indeed. I read this morning that the President is going to meet with the protesters. Fingers crossed.

First, if this is politically offensive or wrong to post, I'll take my scolding and refrain in the future, But...

<soapbox on>
Here in the USA we used to make a strong show of support for FREEDOM of peoples everywhere. Recent foreign wars have changed the mood for many, and that type of intervention surely can be debated with no end. But, we used to be quick to make the public comments for support from the leaders in the white house, and then in the background we did a lot. A government shooting down its citizens should not be tolerated by the world community, yet the American threat of using the big stick isn't taken seriously since "red lines" are crossed with no consequences.

I know this--the pursuit of happiness (and self determination) is a big f'n deal and worth supporting and fighting for (even dying for). Happy people don't rape, they don't steal, they don't tell everyone else how to live. They value their happiness and resist those who would f' it up. They take joy in their work and their creativity fuels the world in art, science and technology. Thomas Jefferson understood this and that is why he put those words in our declaration of independence. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness... It is a good idea for all people everywhere.

Sadly, there are a lot of unhappy people who want to tell everyone else how to live, and there are a lot of jerks and assholes, and we need laws to keep them from preying on others. Hence, we need government. But when the government becomes full of those very same jerks and assholes, well, the people of Ukraine are trying to change that and we should make it clear we support that.

There is another take on this video... Exposing perhaps the already US influences.

'I am a Ukrainian' Video Exposed As Kony-Style Scam - YouTube

Ugh, things never are quite what they appear. Having seen this I somewhat reconsider my post above, but my central thoughts on happiness are the same. (If George Soros is involved I am more likely to think it is all about how he can make a quick 100 billion or more. I do not like that mans influence on the world.)

I'll keep future comments of this nature to my Facebook page.

I'm Polish - another coutry that was part of the Soviet block - and I can tell you that this is a total bullshit. The guy is manipulating the facts and drawing the wrong conclusions.

Adam, I am in no less support of the good people of Ukraine. But I am also cautious because sometimes people are manipulated even with best intentions. Mr. Soros has influenced upheavals in multiple countries, always while betting on the currencies for his own profit.

I posted other video only to show there are always multiple sides, and of course with politics nothing can be trusted to be as it appears.

Some Olympic Ukrainian athletes withdrew of their discipline because of all what's going on to their brothers in sisters in their own country. It makes me feel real sad that in this age stuff like this still happens in our world. ...And even worst in other countries. ...And in many places too, even here in our own countries.
You simply don't kill innocent people for any reason at all; it is against rule number one on Earth!

It is the people all together who decide of their own destiny, and not some control "freak" individuals in power.

That's all I have to say right now on this. My heart and soul are with the Ukrainian people in these very harsh times.

QUOTE]

I didn't even need to watch the video to be moved, but I did anyway. All it takes is a headline to move me often times. This is similar to the Egyptian uprising all started by a sweet 22 year old girl who posted a message and video stating that she was going to go down to the square by herself if need be to protest the regime if nobody joined her (and look how many joined her first to protect her, then the movement started). (I got the Egyptian video from unnamed source since it was not available for viewing in the US).
Stuff like this makes me cry and want to be there with them.
However, further evaluation reveals some "circumstantial evidence of some...uh...trickery going on in the vein of the video being a set-up to make money for someone or persons already very well off whom do not need it...called exploitation which is never good!
That said though it still in no way diminishes my feelings for the people of the Ukraine in the situation they are in and makes it no less real. This is why exploitation pisses me off, because it only serves to do more harm to those who are suffering.

The bits about happy people not raping, stealing, etc and people telling everyone else how to live and the jerks and assholes applies equally to the US. In fact, many of those are in the government immune from the so-called laws they wrote to tighten the noose around the residents. What is needed in the US and the world abroad is government truly by the people and for the people with equality and fairness.
Yes, we should absolutely support those ideals, but I just wish they were part of the US structure as well. Sadly, that is not the case as we have stepped so far away from those ideals that even in society we have all become islands either by choice for some or for protection for some...the only two sides of the fence.
I myself have gotten in some small trouble with the federal government of the US for standing up for the good ideals in the past.

Can we speak Ukrainian politics "? :exciting:

I posted on facebook...Long live Freedom and Democracy.

Rob,.......... Mike, Joe, and myself talked about this for a while and came to the conclusion that talking politics can add nothing of value on an audio forum.

Politics, especially in the US, serves only to divide us.

We want this forum to be inclusive and tolerant of all peoples beliefs, but some topics are better left for a different environment.

Rob, you're right, Long Live Freedom and Democracy !!
