Hugh Masekela Has Died

Jazz great Hugh Masekela has passed today after long battle with prostate cancer.

He will be missed.

Hugh Masekela was a remarkable artist and political activist. In case I am not mistaken he was the first South-African musician to become a household name in the Big Apple jazz scene. Also Stimela is a song about social inequality. RIP.

Hugh Masekela: Hope, on vinyl, my first turn table, an AMG12 with a Benz LP-S cartridge, that man made me fall hard for vinyl, so very hard. By the time I realised that I wasn't going to enjoy vinyl until the day I died, the second hand record store were so ecstatic to see my collection when i drove to their front door & showed them the Hope album & Crime Of The Century too, the guy took one look at the condition of the Hope album & the rest is history.....What a man, what an artist, what an individual.....
