That is amazing. All the destination west coast tracks. Are you going to track your Golf R?Former member of the BMWCCA, dating back to '92. I had an ol'skool E28 M5 and often traded fast time of the day with the club president. I later joined the PCA and POC, I'm West Coast so we did Laguna Seca, Willow Springs (big track, not Streets)
Thunder Hill, Sonoma (Sears Point) and the infield road course at Fontana (sadly being demolised for new warehouse development). My one lament is not doing Riverside before it was demolished.
its my daily driver, Im modding it for canyon carving and surprising kids in Mustangs, STIs and such. I still love the hobby but know a track focused car is a different animal. An e46 M3 build would be cool, but an NC Miata with all the right mods would be a blast too. I was on Bring A Trailer until yesterday bidding on a Caterham 620r, the be-all of big-balls track specials and alas i backed out. That is amazing. All the destination west coast tracks. The Golf R fool a lot of track people when they are forced to let them by. I know. BUT the risk is not worth the reward for such a nice car and it’s your daily driver. I agree any of the E46 variants with the 3.0 engine and ZF5 speed make great track cars. The M3 are getting harder to find on my side of the US. The Miata’s are a purists track car but once you have horsepower it would be hard to go back. I think I have seen one caterham at VIR, I see a LOT of radicals. My tracking days now are for the mental sharpness stimulation and track fellowship with my friends.its my daily driver, Im modding it for canyon carving and surprising kids in Mustangs, STIs and such. We have chatted before. You guys still racing the Ranchero? I did a Lucky Dog race at AMP earlier this year.I am longer an HPDE rat but love me some track time in the 24hrs of Lemons race series.
I have driven VIR many times in an RX8. Awesome car but I got tired of being blitzed up the back stretch by the Vettes.
Most of my track days were in the NE. Watkins Glen, Pocono, Summit Point, Lime Rock and VIR. More recently since moving south, I Iimit my track days with my ‘17 C7 GS to Roebling Road.
In Lemons, we have raced at CMP, Road Atlanta, NOLA, Road America, Sebring, Barber Motorsport park.
Our ‘65 Ranchero is a handful compared to the many many 3 series and Civics most want to drive. But we are in for the fun.
