How to treat bad buyer in transaction?

Wow! That really sucks!!
Paypal is my last resort already but hearing this just makes me cringe.
 
I received the unit back over the weekend- the guy was full of it as expected. oh well, moving on!
 
Paypal has protected me in the past as a seller. But if the buyer enters a credit card into paypal for payment and then does a chargeback on their credit card, there's nothing paypal can do other than fight with the credit card, and 99.9% of the time the credit card is going to do what their card holder wans.

Sorry you had such a hassle. And yes it's amazing just how many full of it guys there are out there!
 
Keith.......It is disappointing to hear of PayPal's decision against you. Their buyer protection policy does not favor the seller. eBay is equally underhanded with their buyer protection guarantee. They require sellers to submit credit card information and agree to allow charges against the card in the event a buyer requires a refund. In other words the seller funds eBay's buyer protection guarantee. When they implemented that policy change I refused to submit a credit card for their file. That means I cannot sell on eBay which doesn't bother me in the least. Between the eBay fees, commission on sale, and PayPal fee my last sale years ago cost me 20% of the total. Ridiculous.

PayPal works for cash transfers between trusted friends. Beyond that it is a crap shoot. Their policy is easily taken advantage of by unscrupulous buyers.

Honest people need to know when guys like this are using transactions for demoing purposes. They need to be outed in the audio community so the next guy doesn't get burned the way Keith did. If places like PayPal and Ebay aren't going to lookout for sellers, we as a group need to.
 
I am in absolutely no way defending what that moron did or defending any such behavior. For me, in my opinion and experience as a buyer once, Ebay is scary, but paypal is bad both ways. I made the mistake once of using paypal to purchase something and I will never have anything to do with them or ebay again. I learned. Let's just say if it weren't for the alertness of my credit union and them doing what needed to be done, I'd be in a bad way. There is no "buyer protection" with paypal either based on my one experience with them, nobody is protected.
I am also aware things have changed for the seller side as well (I know folks who "used" to sell on Ebay, but not anymore because of the expense and hassle). It's bad for both.
I avoid both ebay and paypal, period, no matter what.

Did the buyer have any feedback/history on Audiogon?

I've sold a fair amount on Audiogon, but pretty much only to buyers with past positive feedback for fear of something going awry like this did. And while I realize this is no guarantee, it helps and I've never had any problems with buyers or PayPal. But maybe I need to rethink using PayPal...

Not to change the subject, but I'm totally surprised that Paypal didn't purchase that domain. If you try and substitue paypal with UPS or FEDEX (for example, www.upssucks.com), you'll quickly notice that they own those domains because they know they suck ;)
