Honda Pilot VS VW Atlas

Mike, I'm in the consideration mode for a crossover / SUV next year as well. Here's what I've come up with ............

Toyota Highlander - while 'nice' all-around it has a poorly designed rear cargo area, floor slopes to the rear, totally stupid without a cargo net in place.

VW Atlas - one of the best new vehicle warranties (6 years / 72,000 miles), you'll probably need it

Honda Pilot / Acura MDX - superb all around vehicles and the 3.5 N/A is arguably one of the best V6's out there.

Honda Passport / Acura RDX - same basic platform except that the Acura has the turbo 4, there were issues with that motor up until last year and they are supposedly resolved. Interestingly the Honda utilizes the 3.5 N/A V6

Lexus - I can't get past that God awful ugly assed grill ..........

Chevy Traverse - my current company vehicle (2014 LTZ) 115,000 miles, zero issues, comfortable as can be

Porsche Cayenne - without question the way to buy Porsche is CPO

Toyota Four Runner - truck like, runs forever, excellent resale(like the Tacoma)

Our findings are similar. Thoughts on the Hyundai?

they have come a long way since there 'throw away' early years for sure. I've had them recently in rentals and consider them along with their KIA stablemates to be excellent rides for the $$. Myself, I tend to go with N/A V6's for the long haul.

Good vehicles , warranty claims can be a big pita, the Kia telluride is a good deal, So is the Hyundai equivalent Atlas best all of them, but the VW will kill you with little pita stuff so out of warranty not recommended , yet they will do the 10/200K no issue..

IMO- Toyota/ Lexus if 5 yrs Hyundai /Atlas/Pilot ...

for the record, the VW Atlas is 6 years / 72,000 miles.

interesting, I have multiple friends with Ridgeline P/U's, zero issues. I'm assuming similar drivetrain to the Pilot

As I noted in my earlier post, Honda still makes nice cars, however, they are not what they used to be several years back (and I've had Honda products from 2003-2016). They just started having more problems (don't know why). It is reflective in vehicle dependability ratings - https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2019-us-vehicle-dependability-studyvds

Just go back four years and there is a distinct difference - https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2015-vehicle-dependability-study

Phil, they had known issues with their turbo 4 when it first came out and while Honda says that's behind them now. Some beg to differ. I'd suspect that has something to do with it.

Of interest on the JD Power recent survey and to Mike's inquiry on Hyundai, they appear to have gained quite a bit of ground in the reliability arena.

Keeping the car that long - I would def look at the Lexus. It is just more comfortable over the toyota/VW/Honda. And over 10 years the extra cost up front of it, isn't very much for each month of enjoyment.
