Highly recommended albums, any genre...

I thought I'd start a thread in which we could just list an album, CD or vinyl, that we thought was really special. It would be nice to show a little picture of the album, as well. Also, it doesn't matter what genre; rock, classical, jazz, rap, opera, movie soundtracks, just an album you really think is especially good.

I'd like to kick it off by showing an album (CD) that I purchased this year that is really exciting and a standout from the hundreds of albums I purchased this year. It is a live album which is recorded very well. The music is absolutely killer and everyone I've played it for has said they are going to purchase it.

In the rock, pop rock category, anything Pink Floyd, Led Zep and Dire Straits makes it for me. the following, for me, are must haves in one's collection:

Of course, many others not mentioned but if one is thinking of building a music library, these are but a few that ought to be a part of that collection. Will come back with some must have jazz selections later.

My personal hard fast rule: Never recommend albums or music unless it is for filling an Rx so to speak. I never recommend music unless I have an idea of what the person is specifically looking for or what needs they have musically, emotionally and spiritually if you will.

People who recommend music recordings are people who love listening to those particular music recordings.
They don't think about other people if they are going to like them or not.
...In audio mags for example.

...And also on audio forums. But on audio forums, because we have direct communication with other people (interaction) we learned about some of them's overall music listening preferences and once in a while we suggest a certain music recording to this particular individual.

The Sound Liaison Studio Master Downloads, are the best available at the moment. The music and the playing is absolute top, and the sound quality is unsurpassed. Sound Liaison: Music Store

The only other Hi-res productions that comes close are the Professor Johnson Recordings from Reference Recordings:Information about Reference Recordings, "Prof" Keith O. Johnson and HDCD Recordings

Talking pure sound quality all of the above albums betters anything from ECM, Linn, Naim and what have you. Or am I being too bold here? Probably.

This one is also pretty good:ECM 1594
