I have so many albums in compressed format that I've purchased via iTunes that I hope this is true and/or happens.

I hope it will be true but I am a bit skeptic of such an enormous site as iTunes going down that road. I wonder if it will be possible to see the Forrest for trees.
Saw this on a similar discussion on the AVS forum about Major Record labels not supporting Hi-res files.

These albums has been made with audiophile sound in mind from the very beginning and I find these artist better than most if not all of the artists supported by the majors.

I would like to see this, but for me they will need to offer them in FLAC as well as ALAC. I found out my Bryston BDP-1 will not play 24/96 encoded in ALAC. It works fine with 16/44 ALAC files. FLAC is fine at all encodings.
