HiFi Rose RS150 Network Streamer Review

Can this be use similar to an Aurender using the RS150 USB out?

The N200 and N20 don’t have a DAC. Different product category in my opinion. The N200 and N20 need a DAC.

N200/N20 = Network Transport
RS150 = Network Streamer

Mike have you had the opportunity to try using the RS150 USB out into a DAC direct? The more I read on this option the cloudier it gets. Thanks

Yes. It’s not quite as good as an N200 feeding the dac, but still very good and close.

For people who already have a good DAC, wouldn’t it be nice Rose came up with a Streamer only, no DAC built in, cheaper model? Same gorgeous screen, and streaming quality & capability, digital out, no DAC.

Ahhhhh….. this must have been launched recently. Admittedly, I had not checked the lineup in months, but when I did, they did not have such thing. Thanks Mike

On a close look: speaker outs? Preamp outs? I was thinking something like a streamer only. Digital out to DAC, and nothing else. No DAC, no amp. Just a streamer

I'd say this is a pretty good explanation of the RS150b. Mine has been playing for about two weeks and is now settling into my system. There is a lot of energy and detail and the soundstage is improving from what I first noticed. I usually listen with the display off and I haven't used any of the apps.I'm either watching TV, playing Youtube from my main computer or streaming Tital/Qobuz with Roon from my Ipad. I left the screen film on so finger prints aren't a issue. I use the app on my iPhone to run and switch inputs and settings. That's one of the best parts for me. I haven't used the supplied remote except to set it up for the first time.

Better sounding than MSB Discrete with Network Renderer? I briefly had a Lumin X1 and while the massive soundstage, detail, and liquidity impressed, I found the tone to be not as natural as others. More homogeneous and in a way analytical. I think in the end the character of the Sabre chip came through, so I'm looking at this RS150 with a dose of skepticism.

Ah so MSB finally raised the price. It stood at $9,950 base until recently.
Either way an unfair comparison, but if it's being said that the RS150 can compete at 2-3x the price the Discrete should be thrown in there.

HiFi Rose now streaming Apple Music.

We're excited to announce the latest HiFi Rose update has expanded its streaming capability to include Apple Music! Currently offered in standard streaming quality, with high resolution in the works, Apple Music subscribers can now access their collection. The new addition takes what was already an amazing piece of equipment to the next level.

The Internet Radio app has also been updated, you can now have VU meters when using Roon, and if you have a drive installed, you can cache RoseTube videos for more stable playback.

Does it mean if I have music stored in iCloud, I can access them from HiFi Rose?

I was wondering who the first to bag Apple Music would be.
I hope more companies add Apple Music native playback.
My question will be if hi-res (and lossless assuming that's what HiFi Rose means by standard) will stream bit perfect.
Nonetheless very convenient and a great score by HiFi Rose.

can you use the rose150 as a pc for "light things" such as browsing newspaper and checking e-mails? some kind of a window10 or so?

I did a update on the RS150b last night. It was interesting in how it updated at least interesting to me. It was a three part update. Meaning it updated and then prompted to update the unit again and then a third time. I was wondering if there was a bug and it might brick my unit so I just went through the process. It finished the update and the unit is fine. And works as before the update. It does have the Apple now active on my iPad and iPhone but I don't have a Apple Music account active. So, I can't report how that sounds or works. As Mike posted "high resolution is in works". I am able to set the screen to display the time while I play Roon however I was playing from one of my play list and after each song change the display will go back to the original cover art on the display this also happened when playing a complete album. Looks like another update will have to correct that. The VU meter option when using Roon shows a message "this function is not available". It's good knowing that HiFi Rose has the ability to do a software update as easy as my Tesla.
