Just wanted to introduce myself since this seems like a fairly kind forum. I'm 30, and I love my records more than most things I own. I use a minimally modified Bogen/Lenco: heavy birch plinth, Schick tonearm. I became interested in playback equipment only because I found the shitty Stanton dj turntable that I got when I was fifteen to be shitty indeed. I mean, why obsessively collect a medium only to reproduce it more terribly than 128 kbps mp3? If the iPod significantly outperforms the stereo, something is wrong, right? So I started with a Rega and have never looked back. I'm heavy into estate sales when looking for classical albums, otherwise I spend most of my dollars digitally. Irony, I know. I hope to one day have a system that easily and movingly plays all of my records, no matter what era. Of course, today's records are sadly often terrible, if you are still trying to keep in step with the new hot poop, which I am, if mostly passively. My favorite record of the last two months is easily Frank Ocean's Blonde. Before that, Kanye West's The Life of Pablo. I know, anathema to many of you old dudes out there. Otherwise I am fastidious in my rock 'n' roll consumption. The Cramps and The Fall are perfect. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Deerhoof just nearly. Jerry Lee Lewis is the Killer. And Elvis is King. I've never been a fan of Nirvana yet my closest friendships were formed out of a common need for the Pixies. These days I think Steve Albini is right about the best Pixies record being Title TK. Just kidding. I do think that it's nearly perfect, however.
Anyways, music... Thank you.
