Ok so if I have a dvc sub and a class d amp with 2 sets of input terminals, if I ran a set of wires from each coil to each amp terminal would I get a 1 ohm load ?

Welcome to the forum Tyler! I'm sure someone will help answer your question.

Hi Tyler,

I'm not a sub user...but... on your sub, if the individual coils are 2 ohms each, and you in essence connect both Sub Coils across a mono amplifier output, the amplifier would see a 1 ohm load. if the individual coils on your sub are 4 ohms each, then the amp sees of course 2 ohms.

I'm assuming by your description that your sub amp has stereo input and a single mono output?

Others will surely offer more. and I'm on my first cup of coffee today so what did I just say anyway? :)

So your DVC (dual voice coil, you will have 2 positive and 2 negative terminals, one for each coil) sub has 4 terminals correct ?
if your sub has this setup, lets say each are rated at 2 ohms each, when the 2 pair are connected to your amp that would be 4 ohm's if your mono amp is rated to handle the load. What is your amp

Heck I haven't even had coffee yet so I could be still a sleep as I write this.

I am using 2 spl152x, and 2 r1200-1d , so yes each coil is 2 ohms

Hi Tyler,

The first thing you should do is download the owners manual for your Rockford Fosgate Mono Sub Car Amp here -
Rockford Fosgate® - RFTECH Support

Where you'll find the following wiring diagram -
RF_Mono_Sub_CarAmp.jpg
(click the above image to enlarge)

Its a mono amp, so the rca signals are summed and it has 2 outputs, each with a minimum of 2 ohms, for a paralleled 1 ohm max of 1200 watts.
If your intent is to drive 2 speakers, each with 2 2 Ohm voicecoils, you'll need to put the voicecoils of each speaker in series for a net of 4 ohms, which when paralleled on the mono amp yield a 2 ohm total load, or 800 watts, a trivial amount in actual loudness difference and probably a longer lasting amp.

If you're using only one subwoofer, simply wire each of the 2 2 ohm voicecoils in proper phase to the amp as in the diagram.

That's all I can offer, as I really don't know nuth'n 'bout birth'n car audio systems.... I live in Brooklyn and don't own a car.

I have the manual but I intend to use only 1 sub per amp so I have 2 subs and 2 amps, but you see in the manual it shows 2 subs that are 2 ohm would read 1 ohm what I want to know is if it will work the same with 1 dvc 2 ohm with the coils wired straight to the amp no crossing them in the box simply because 2 pieces of 8 guage won't fit in the speaker post.

It doesn't matter to the amp whether its driving via its 2 outputs 2 2 ohm voice coils on a single subwoofer, or if its driving 2 discrete subwoofers, each with a single 2 ohm voice coil. With your specific amps and subwoofers they should play well together.

Yes they do work pretty good together 142.9 db before this upgrade can't wait to see after all this bs! but is it normal for all my voice coils to have a reading of 2.5ohm any idea?
