Hello,

I have a phonostage preamplifier : Esoteric E03..

Specifications :
Audio characteristics (1kHz)
RIAA deviation (20Hz to 20kHz). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ±0.2 dB
Total harmonic distortion (A-weight, MM). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.003%
Output impedance. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 80 Ω
Maximum output level. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18 V
Rated output level. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 500 mV
Gain. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 40 dB (MM)
66 dB (MC)
Input sensitivity. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 mV (MM)
0.25 mV (MC)
Maximum input level. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 180 mV (MM)
9 mV (MC)
Equivalent input noise (A-weight) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . -137 dBV (MM)
-140 dBV (MC)
Input impedance. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 47 kΩ (MM)
Selectable* (MC)
*Use the set control INPUT 1, INPUT 2
INPUT 1 : 10 Ω, 50 Ω, 100 Ω, 300 Ω, 500 Ω, 1 KΩ, 10 KΩ
INPUT 2 : 100 Ω, 500 Ω, 1 kΩ, 10 kΩ

My problem is : What mean's Input sensitivity 0.25 mV (MC) ?

Can I connect a Audio Technica ART 1000 ?

Thank you very much.

yes you can,
the esoteric has up to 66DB gain for MC, but they recommend 0.25mv and up, it just say you will need to get your preamp volume a bit higher for the ART1000.
its borderline but it will be ok.
the ideal will be to get cart's with some more output... for this particular phono stage.

Hi
Thank you very much.
I have 2 art-9 and I must to get my preamp volume a bit higher fot audio-technica art9.
I have setup +20 db for the phono input for this preamp.

Thank you very much.
I don't know what I do.
Thanks for your help.

The ART9 has 0.5mV output while the ART1000 has only 0.2mV output, so the ART1000 will require a significantly higher volume level setting to reach the same volume as you currently get with your ART9. Your phono stage has gain levels of 40dB for MM and 66Db for MC, so not sure what you're referring to when you state you have it set for +20dB. It has to be set to the MC gain setting for either of these cartridges. Since the Esoteric is rated to handle MC inputs down to 0.25mV and the ART1000 is 0.2mV it should be close enough to still work well. However if you're already pushing the volume control of your line stage towards its upper limits you may not have enough range to reach the same volume levels with the lower output ART1000. It's hard to predict these things exactly since there are many factors involved, including the gain of your line stage preamp. Hope this helps at least a bit!

Ok, thank you very much.
So I don't going to buy this cartridge.
I prefer be sure it's good.

Thank you for your advices.
