I am new here. Just spent hours reading different post. I owned an audio store back in the 70's, so I am one of the old audiophiles. Being older also means I am NOT computer savvy. I have a Lumin D2 and just purchased a used Lumin L1. I was using a thumb drive before the L1. I use windows and connected the L1 as stated in the manual. The blue and red lights flicker. When I plug anything (phone tablet etc) my computer recognizes them right away. Nothing happens when the L1 is connected to the USB. I went to My Compute and Disc management and it is not there. I have tried 5 different cables ( Kimber & Audioquest included) and still nothing. I tried plugging up the L1 and restarting the computer and still nothing. I tried all the same things on my Laptop and it does not recognize the L1 either.

Welcome! Which Windows are you using? Windows 10? If so, you can search 'Computer Management' (where it says 'Type here to search') and then 'Disc Management.' See if you can discover it that way.

I am using Windows 7 and have gone to Disc management and it does not show up there either after search.

Have you tried power cycling your L1 while it’s connected to your computer?

Peter Lie from LUMIN is a regular here. He’s based in Hong Kong so he’ll see your message tonight. He’s got all the answers for questions like this. Good luck.

I appreciate the help very much. I tried a restart with the L1 connected on the computer and also the laptop. Nothing showing up. I saw a thread, if I understand it correctly, you hold the power button and restart your computer. I did that and no help.

I restarted the computer with Lumin attached and tried with the Lumin no attached. If there is a way to restart the L1 I have not tried that. Not sure how.

If you are adding a new network attached piece into the mix you may have to re-boot the entire network back to and including the router. Shut the whole network down and then turn the pieces in the chain back on one at a time router first and see if the network recognizes the L1 then. If not then wait for Peter to come online later.

The L1 is attached to the computer to load music thru the USB. When I attach the phone the computer recognizes the phone and directs me to the files for the phone. The L1 is only attached to the network once you are finished loading the music. I will give it a try couldn't hurt.

See if the L1 shows up on the network vs directly from the computer. If you can not find it either way, there could be something wrong with it.

Not positive I did it correctly but checked the network and the L1 does not show up in the system nor does the D2. I turned on the D2 and it shows my last play list but just goes from song to song without playing any of them.

I turned the D2 on and then the Tablet. The D2 said network error. I disconnected the L1 Ethernet connection and turned the D2 on again and the network error DID NOT show up. I have repeated this now 4 times and the network error only showed up the first time. I have turned off and reset the router, also. For now turning on the D2 you get the circle in the window and that is all.

You sent us an e-mail right? I'm not sure if the support staff answered, but anyway, blue and red light both flickering is not normal.

Please try this:
1. [Since you cannot see it on a computer in the first place, this step is not applicable to you. It is retained here for completeness.] Connect L1 to a computer via USB to delete _ALL_ the partitions in the drive (using Disk Management if on Windows platform)
2. Connect the L1 network cable to the WiFi router or network switch
3. Disconnect L1 USB
4. Boot up L1 and wait until the RED LED flashes
5. Hold the power button for 6 seconds

This will format the internal drive, then boot up the L1. Without USB connected, you should not see any red light at all. With USB connected, you should see both blue and red light stay on (without flickering).

What is the size of the internal HDD of the L1? 1TB, 2TB or 5TB, or any other?

If this does not work, I would consider your L1 to be faulty, and suggest you to discuss with the seller.

Thank you Peter and everyone else, I had tried your suggestion and the L1 is not responding. I will return it to the seller.

Could somebody tell me how to put your system at the bottom of the thread?

Glad you were able to determine the issue. Lumin gear is designed to be easy plug and play. I’ve had two Lumins (S1 and X1) with L1s and both have been flawless.

Get another L1, load it with music, plug it in to your network and enjoy the music.

In the upper right corner of the forum, there’s a header for settings, click the settings tab, once the screen changes, look at the left side and look for the word signature, click that box and your signature box will open up where you can input and format your signature. Once you are done, save it and see if it looks like what you want, make changes as necessary.
