Hello, hello, hello. Up to a few days ago, I've spent most of my audio-forum time on Computer Audiophile, where I still go regularly and have learned an awful lot. But Audioshark here is my new destination, and lots of threads seem compelling. As implied, my music system is digital - fuller hardware details are in my signature below.
I'm of an age where I've gone through most formats for recorded music, from my parents' 78s to my first 45s to LPs and reel-to-reel tape, and then cassettes, later CDs, the first iPods shipped from Apple, and now totally digital, with about 2100 albums stored losslessly on a solid-state drive that I can readily hold in the palm of my hand.
That, in its way, is still amazing to me - so much music stored in so little space.
But the music always comes first, not the format. My tastes in music could be called eclectic, including folk, pop, choral, jazz, rock, classical, country, bluegrass, ambient. Just writing down those categories, though, sounds so limiting or too expansive, since "folk" or "pop" are very broad genres to my ear, while "classical" means more J.S. Bach than anyone else.
For now, that's probably enough to write.
I live in the lower Hudson Valley, not far from the Bear Mountain Bridge, and would love to meet up sometime with other audio people in this area.
Dave, who would say his absolute favorite audio component are the DeVore Fidelity speakers which are especially lovely and clear and rich with acoustic music
P.S. There are three things I've loved since I was a young child and still love now in my 60s. Does that mean I haven't grown up? Think not, since the three are ageless: dogs, cycling, and recorded music. Nice to have that continuity in my being.
