I started in the audio hobby in 1988 with some HS graduation gift cash and a local hi-end shop (Richmond, VA). I walked out with Magnepan MG-1, Denon CD player and an Acoustat solid state amp. I was so proud! I thought the Planar speakers were the coolest thing on the planet.
The addiction was born and the the next 5 years I went through Apogee Divas, Thiel 3.6, B&W matrix, Levinson, Proceed, Parasound, Krell, and McIntosh gear.
I began traveling too much for work and lost the hobby for 10 years or so. Then, I found ComputerAudiophile.com and was re-hooked. I went to the local hi-end store (now in Santa Fe, NM) wow, how things had changed. Several new brands and some old favorites made their way home but I am eagerly waiting for the Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE, Job 225 and Fritz Carbon 7 SE to arrive.
I love the exploration of different manufacturers' goals and technology implementation. The music is the heart of it all. Jazz, vocals, rock, acoustic, classical, blues and world music are all on the menu. I mainly like the features of computer-based audio and CD but there is a eventual goal of a vinyl collection. I am a sucker for the tube and analogue sound but the portability of the digital media suits my lifestyle more.
Anyway glad to be with you.
Mike
