Hello all,
My name is Brett from the Great state of Wisconsin! Milwaukee to be exact. I love my Bucks, Brewers and Green Bay Packers, but I love music and audio the most. I went down the rabbit hole 20 years ago with my first buy, a sansui 9090 and jbl 940 speakers. It cost me a whole $200. My mom had a nice system back in the day and listened to all that 70s music. Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Babe Ruth, Stones etc. So that's what I listen to. I love classic Rock, all types. I am 48 so in High School the rap thing was around, and I still listen to some old school, reminds me of the parties and cruising the strip. When I was younger, I worked a side job as a bartender at the local Pabst Theater. I also worked artist merch at Summerfest. So I've seen almost everyone I've ever wanted to see, and met a lot of artists backstage. The music I listen to shaped the way I wanted my audio system to be. I like speakers with great fidelity, but also great deep bass. Im not a subwoofer fan so my speakers must be big floor standers. I've gone through maybe 10 sets of speakers to find my perfect one. I've discovered bi amping and its opened up new choices for me. Right now im Running a set of Infinity Kappa 9s, powered by 2 amps. An ESS 500a for the woofers, and a restored Sony Tan 8550 VFET amp for the top. Im all in on VFETS as they take the edge out of the EMITs. I've also got a restored yamaha B1 VFET and uc1 meters. Im deciding which one to keep as they both sound fantastic. My preamp is a sony ta e7 and my tuner is a Marantz 2110. I just bought an infinity FET preamp and im going to re-cap it immediately. I've also got a Yamaha C1 preamp getting restored as I speak. DId I say I love FETs? I use a DAP streamer as my music source. I gave all my albums and my Technics sl 1200mk2 to my son, so the youth can keep the flame going. I used to take him to concerts and he'd sit at the soundboard, he loves Styx and Blue Oyster Cult as he got to meet them backstage. I love streaming and having any song at my fingertips, and I usually just listen to a few songs everyday. No time for the album process. Anyway, glad to be a member, I've listened and owned a lot of amps, speakers and have changed my system every couple of years. Im a master auto tech and understand service manuals, I own an ocilisope and can do basic repairs, soldering, recapping, setting bias and output voltage. I love the vintage stuff and will repair, but send out for restorations. I feel the golden age for amps was the 70s and speakers the 80s. Anyway, glad to be here with fellow audio addicts. Im also a big pinball and arcade fan so I do cross trade at times.
