My carpenter is ready, just not sure I'm ready with my measurements. This is my thought. Mid-horn is 22.5" from the bottom of the cabinet. I sit on an adjustable zero gravity chair, generally my ear is 31.5" off the ground. So if my stands are 9", that would put my ears @ mid-horn level. My table (top surface) piece of Baltic Birch Ply is 3/4" thick…. If I have him make the legs 8 1/4", that gets me the 9" off the ground. Mmmm- perhaps just have them made 10"???? The thought being, I could always have them trimmed. Many have just gone 12", but they could be sitting in a chair that has their ears 2-3" higher. System is WT Amadeus GTA w/ EMT Tsd-15 SFL, Homage T2, V/R, Dy'quem's, Lignolab rack.

fjn04.......When I owned the Altec Valencia speakers I had 8" risers built for them and veneered to match the Valencia cabinets. That adjustment in speaker elevation placed the horns at head height while sitting on a sofa. Since the horns disperse high frequency energy both vertically and horizontally I did not find it critical to have the center of the horn exactly at ear height. There was a marked improvement in the overall frequency integration from top to bottom once the horns were raised, as well as improved sound stage localization.

Thanks Dan. I am taking in to consideration that my ear height in my zero gravity chair is lower than the norm. For instance, on my couch my ear height is around 36". So around 4" higher than I will be sitting. So I CAN see why others have gone around 12" with their stands. FWIW- I have them 7.5 " up now (on books), and they sound quite good. My stands will have 3/4" (baltic birch) tops, and squared off legs (2" X 2") instead of going w/ a vintage look. Just like John does with DeVore Orangutan legs. I like the vintage look, but just want to go for structural integrity. Any reason you went with a riser over a table type stand? Cheers -Don

Don.......I had a cabinet maker build cross braced boxes to the same outer dimensions of the low rise base on the Valencia's. They were veneered to match the speakers. When the Valencia's were sitting on the bases it looked like a factory mod to the base. It was quite attractive.

This is a stock photo showing the way the low rise base was on my Valencia speakers.

Thanks Jim. I should have mentioned also mentioned…! I am going to take off those factory skirts. Some careful minor surgery, but People say it comes off pretty cleanly. So if I went 9" total, which makes great sense, it will be coupled to them sans skirts.

Dan- My pair look just like that. That's the skirt I plan on removing. Wow- It looks like yours were in NM condition.

Don.......That is a stock photo of the Valencia's. Those are not mine, although my Valencia's looked that good or better. I owned them for eight years back in the 1970's. I wish I had kept them.

Gotcha. I paid a bit too much, but I feel lucky to have a clean pair. I am really liking what the Werner Jagusch Crossover is doing also. More open, effortless, and refined. That, with only 25 hrs. Have to say, I'm enjoying them. Cheers -Don

The Altec Valencia stand could be huge and massive, as the speakers need more height and have deep base.
