Hegel vs Pass - can anyone describe the differences?

I'm exactly the opposite...waiting on amps

What are they?

You just got the .8s not too long ago. Are you ready to dump them so soon? I know my xa160.5 are lifers for me.

Ready to 'dump them'? No. Are they lifers? No. Do I change equipment casually? No. Each piece of equipment is auditioned and purchased to get me closer to my goals. No gear is without its flaws and if I can find something that either has less flaws or has more synergy with my system and/or goals then I will contemplate a change.

I am curious about the Hegel because it's often matched with Magico - and I have Magico speakers.

Well...I'm waiting on ONE amp...not AMPS plural like big dog Mike to go with my Red S1's as pictured.

I read this a while ago on TAS regarding the Pass sound

" Each generation of amplifiers he has produced has been a bit cleaner, has better low-level transients and dynamics, and is sweeter and more detailed. He has also been consistent in the way he “voices” his amplifiers: open and detailed, not warm and forgiving; extended highs and flat levels of upper midrange energy; equally flat mid and upper bass, with no gimmicks to give the sound more punch and “rhythm.”

So this is neutral ?

If that what it means maybe its the reason I chose an ATI over Pass. the ATI is so neutral for a lot less money and has great quality and durability.

A huge congrats! The S1's are beeeeee-u-tiful. Love the red. Do you have pics of them in your room? Would love to see if you do.

Room is in a bit of disarray right now with gear change. I promise I will as soon as it gets cleaned up.

In general, the Pass gear is fairly neutral, but it does differ slightly from model to model. Even with the .5 or .8 series there are some tonal balance differences.

I understand. I wouldn't worry about having just the one H30. The sound will probably be purer in stereo and there's plenty of power. I know I wouldn't be considering the monos!

Did you leave the tubes in the picture so you wouldn't feel like you were cheating on them with all the BEEFY SS amplification?!?!

I was doing some tube rolling at the time.....getting all my little tube soldiers ready for action.

One H30 easily drove my S5 speakers.

Ahh...OK. H30 with S1's. Nice!

What pre?

open auditions being held over the next few weeks/month. Depends on my allowance money ;)

Short list to include P30, REF5se, "budget" pre ARC SP20. I'm open for suggestions too.

anyone help me with how to post thumbnail pictures so i don't fill the whole screen again with a picture post?!?! TIA
