I spent last week in Stowe Vermont Xcountry Skiing and Snow Shoeing along with trying to gather some Heady Topper. Ever since Beer Advocate rated this tasty treat as #1 in the World last year, it is harder and harder to get. The little town of Waterbury made The Alchemist shut down their retail store and the small brewery-cannery where they make this liquid gold. They do 2 batches a week which are distributed and sold out in hours to local establishments.
In the few places you can buy a case, it is 1 case per person but most places will only sell 4-packs at 1 per person. My wife and I drove all over the place each day a delivery was made to gather the nectar in small quantities. All in all I was able to get 2 cases worth of which I sold 6 4-packs to my beer snob buddies here at work.
This is getting insane since Beer Advocate weighed in and Waterbury made them stop selling to the public due to an accident a day at the intersection of Rt 100 and the street they are on right next to Ben & Jerry's.
