Has Home Theater reached the end of the road?

Are you a gamer? If not, then your opinion based on an article is just that.

I have been a member of AVS since 2001 and have actually used my home theater for gaming (with my children when they live at home; none of us are pros!). Millions of gamers using home theater? We must definitely been reading different posts. But since you don't do video gaming yourself (as you stated above) that could explain your view.

Not a pro-gamer myself or a habitual gamer, but I have tried to do games in my home theater with several friends who are really big into gaming (they are not pro-gamers either). And while they could afford a home theater set up, they pretty much confirm what the article says. Ah! and while talking about gaming, they convinced me to try managed ethernet switches where you can control the bandwidth/latency and cost no more than $100 (expensive audiophile switches do not apply).

people don't care here about quality speakers. By far most speakers sold are soundbars for under a big tv. Looks amazing in the living room, no amps, no cables everywhere, cleaned up.

It has only one problem: it sounds poor

depends on the sound bars , ours are killer but I do agree, most are crap

High end HT is alive and well. It’s the fat middle that Voxx serves that is moving downmarket to soundbars. That’s why Voxx, parent to a bunch of undifferentiated mid-market A/V brands is hemorrhaging cash right now.

It is alive, but not sure it is doing well. There will always be those that will go all out (like the Star Wars themed HT that someone shared here).
In my mind, I still think of any room with a TV and sound bar as a TV room and not a full fledged HT (with projector/screen and discrete speakers).

I would agree

home theatres are very popular, especially if done right, really no different than a dedicated 2 channel audio room, you can get extremely nice sound in a theatre if you know what you are doing and enjoy video as well.

Even tho I do think that HT rooms are declining in popularity, I do think they are much much more popular than a high end 2 channel audio system. So many people that I know under 40 and not may more at 40-50 have never even thought of an audio system other than bluetooth speaker. Mostly just earbuds.

We use our HT a lot. We entertain pretty regularly to the point I need more places for content. I just found some new potential sites. I have use them before I can give an opinion.
