Harbeth 40.2 anni. or the Verity Otello

ah i had the incredible verity audio rienzi till recently , i am a verity audio nutter but they are so rare in uk that i could not replace them with another higher spec verity audio .

actually i replaced them with some harbeths but the shl5plus was not a match for the amazing top end of the rienzi and the big deep sound from the verity , it was not floor shaking but it was way better than the harbs

now of course the 40.2 is a different proposition and i can`t comment on that . what i will say is that practically i think the otello is more versatile . you can have the woofers facing forward or back depending on your room . this makes it a very flexible speaker . the otello was just at axpona and seems to have been popular . i have never heard one , verity don`t have shows in uk and are barely known although i bleat on and on about them !!!

they also come in 2 boxes , this makes it much easier to manoervre rather than the massive hulk of the 40.2 . now of course being british [ and i recently stayed in the village where they are made ] i should support harbeth !!!

have a listen to both and i really want to hear your feed back , i have some tannoy eaton legacy in place of the verity but would have verity back anyday , in particular the leonore which was the predecessor .

He had Verity Audio but doesn’t anymore which I think speaks volumes.

Harbeth had three engineering students working for two years to produce their Radial cone material. Now in Radial 2 version the cone material will beat polypropylene very time. Verity do not make their drive units for the Otello in house.

I say go with the technology.

I wonder why Goodwins Hi End is not a Verity dealer anymore. I have emailed Rutherford Audio many times for Verity dealers in US and have not gotten a reply.??????

yes the reason i no longer have rienzis as i had to pay some big bills on a house renovation and they had to be sold . they are beautifully made and lots of speaker manufacturers use drivers made by others . it does not detract from their quality

i notice the axpona 2018 review of the otello said this

[h=3]Auspicious Debuts[/h]Verity Audio Othello
These substantial Canadian beauties made their debut in Munich last spring and they made their first North American appearance at AXPONA 2018. In WATT/Puppy style, the Verity Audio Othello ($18,695) is a dual-chassis design, with one enclosure for the neo-ring dome tweeter and the Audio Technology midrange driver sitting atop a larger bottom cabinet with a pair of 7" edge-coated reed/paper-pulp woofers mounted on the rear aspect of the speaker. The specimens at the show were gorgeous, sporting a high-gloss Makara finish. Driven by a Trilogy Audio Systems 925 hybrid integrated amplifier ($15,995), the Othellos delivered some of the most satisfying listening at the show, both with the Shostakovich symphony I’d brought along and one of the exhibitor’s choices, a recording of Abdullah Ibrahim playing solo at the Montreux Jazz Festival that represented the scale of his piano exactly right.

of course all this is meaningless really as its up to the op which one sounds better . my very good friend adores his harbeth and they sound utterly amazing in his house , in my house i just could not get on with them as they made my ears ache in one room and were too polite in another .

Goodwin's High End website still showing Verity but for local sales only. Wonder what's going on? Did they confirm that they are no longer Verity Dealer anymore?
