Gryphon Apex and Acora VRC

I had an opportunity to listen to this combination yesterday.
Let's talk about this combination physically first. The speakers are made out of granite and weight 430lbs each. They needed the weight. I will get into to that later. If you are considering the amp then you probably have the real-estate for the amp and the room for this. This amp is the size of Med. size desk, weight 445lbs.
Listening to this level of product how you have treated your room makes big difference. This amp is not for an untreated room. 225 watts of pure Class A. That's an impressive statement by itself. It lived up to the billing. That was the lowest I have heard anything go and remain crystal clear. Good thing those speakers were made of granite and weighted so much. They needed every pound. The speakers are a quality product. I'm a Wilson fan so personally I would have liked to hear that amp with speakers of equal level. I suspect I would have another level of appreciation for this amp.

I find the Acora are quite competent speakers. I've even heard them with $150k VAC amps. If someone would gift me one or the other my choice would actually be the Acora.

I have also heard the Acora speakers at a few shows and am confident they would sound great driven by any amplifier with even a modicum of grunt. That doesn’t mean they need high $ as I don’t necessarily equate good sound with high $.

Geesh, why do we pin ourselves to ratios of this cost this much therefore that must cost that much to be its equal? Crazy hobby.

I have a friend with a pair of SRC-1's that I have listen to many times since he bought them first of the year. He so far he has run them with two different high quality but not high dollar amps and they sound great. They are very efficient. Based on my listening I can't imagine a Wilson speaker I would even consider over the VRC and they are certainly an equal level.

I have used a Modwright KWH225i hybrid integrated with my SRC-1's with great success. A Coda 16.0 (up to 100w class A) is certainly better, but 2-3x the cost.
