Gryphon 300 - one month later

I feel as if it's a new job or moving to a new house. Major change of direction.

man, if you add one of those you will have an absolutely awesomeness setting Larry!!

It’s a bummer Mike has one of those in the store, isn’t it [emoji3].

And now try to sit still and think it through in a calm and analytical manner... called Mike yet?

After receiving the DAC for the Diablo 300 and installing it - in one word. WOW!

I installed the DAC into the Diablo last Sunday - fairly easy but for the actual install of the DAC you definitely need 4 hands and 2 sets of eyes. You need to be looking in 2 different places and you just can't do it by yourself. It's not hard by any means tho. There is definitely a bunch of bolts to get the top off but the directions are really good.

The Diablo knows that it is installed and there is no setup needed in its menu system.

At first it sounded fairly good. The mids a little grainy and bass a little bloated.

After 24 hours the bass tightened up but the mids still were not as sweet as I like. But, the detail and soundstage was absolutely gorgeous. Also the musicality really started to come into it's own.

After 48 hours - mids were still the same ish but the musicality was there. At this point the good outweighed the bad and it replaced the Ayre QX5/20 in the system.

The 3rd day - wow - the mids became sweet and became even more tuneful/musical. The sound stage also became tight in it's placement, much better than the Ayre in every way.

It is an amazing DAC plus it's an amazing value. Way to go Gryphon.

Hmmmm

It gives off the less heat as the M400s. Probably halfway between a S250 and M400s. And maybe the same as the Ayre MXR20s

I think I have about 75 hr under the belt. Manual says 50 hr (addition to factory burn-in) and Mike recommended 150 hr.

Someone mentioned in one of the threads before (couldn't find it now) that certain frequencies aren't fully waken up with Diablo 300 in his system. I also felt the same way during first couple of days with Diablo in my system. But I can attest that it's all gone now. Diablo 300 sounds more powerful and refined than my previous separates. I had doubts going to the integrated route, but I'm glad I did and has no regret with the kind of performance I get from the 300.
