A few weeks ago a coworker was clearing out his basement and knew I was into audio so asked me if I wanted it. I'm always game for playing with something and then finding a home for it. So he drops the stuff off, early 2000s Mass Market receiver and cd player and some Bose speakers is what it ended up being. I helped him unload his car and we dropped it all in my living room. The guy takes a look at my speakers and rack of gear, which was not turned on, and turns to me in all seriousness and says "You might want to swap some of that stuff out for mine, it really sounds great". My wife nearly fell off her chair in the other room and didn't let us hear her laughing out loud. I kept a straight face and just said " I will probably just hook my brother up with it all".
What else can you do? I did not want to appear to be a snob and he did not really have time to hang out for me to let him have a listen so I just said nothing. He was replacing it all with a Sound Bar anyway...LOL. Maybe someday he will stop over again and I can watch his jaw drop, but until then my wife and I will keep laughing out loud at the whole thing. Turns out the Receiver won't even turn on without dropping back to protection stand by mode and the speakers are nothing to talk about.
Thought someone would get a chuckle out of this and have a story of their own that is similar.
