got my new amp

Bob - your new integrated has the new Triode autobias (they call it "self bias") technology. So, just sit back and enjoy you lucky dog!

I always thought that the manual biasing procedure was one of those things that allowed the owner to get a little closer to their tube amplifiers. I actually looked forward to "making the Tube" operational environment as perfect as I could and thoroughly enjoyed this small interaction. Just my take on it!

thanks Mack!

I frankly am confused. Mike thinks the amp is self biasing, and the specs say so. then why does it have a bias gauge and a bias knob? I must learn more

Mike and others, probably have more experience with this but I would think it may be acting as a visual monitor displaying where the tube biases are and more importantly giving the viewer a visual when something has/is going wrong internally! Sort of an early warning system.

It has manual bias as well and you can see where the tubes are biased. It's all good.

Congrats on the new amp Bob, FWIW Jim McShane has been my go-to guy for all things tubes in so far as replacement advice , etc. My signal tubes and power tubes in my Rogue M-180's never sounded better. Here's his link .......... http://www.mcshanedesign.net/tubes.htm

enjoy !

THANK YOU Dave. those are monster amps! were they expensive?

Congrats Bob!

On your comment, "my amp needs to be off the carpet!" YIKES!!! Is it really resting on the carpet with nothing under it? If so, that's why it's getting so hot. At a minimum put a piece of plywood or tile or four bricks down and elevate the amp. Gear, especially tube amps cool from convection and if the vents on the bottom are impeded you can have real problems, fire included.

thank you Mike! each foot is resting on a piece of wood, maybe one inch thick. I will fix that immediately! thanks!

also, Mike! I noticed your web site, Avanti audio. I got good cables from the amp to the speakers. I have what I think are CHEAP cables from the CD player to the amp. are they called RCA connectors? which of your cables would do that connection? thanks bob

Avanti audio cables are awesome. I would highly recommend them. It beats few hi end cables in my room [emoji1360]

Thanks Paul, I think? Do you mean they "beats few" (as in none) or "beats a few" (as in some)? LOL

Bob, just because a certain cable uses "RCA Connectors" does not make them good or bad, cheap or expensive. If you're using the RCA cables that come with some equipment in the packaging, then yes they likely could be improved upon.

Choosing cable termination types depends on what your equipment utilizes, e.g., single ended cable connections (RCA type connectors) or balanced cable connections (XLR connectors). I have both types of cables. Feel free to PM me or call to discuss if you wish.

An auto bias amp with manual bias? Hmm.

IMO, no they are not (msrp $6450 the pair), I've yet to hear anything near their price point that betters them. Rogue's Apollo 'dark series', now those are 'monster' amps....... 250 watts. With a msrp of less than 16k the pair they have little to no competition at their price point

which speakers do you use?

Revel Studio 2's
