Audiophile Golden Ears?
So, actually, how good is the hearing of the ‘golden eared’ audiophiles in this forum? (Yeah those who claim to trust only their ears!)

You can find out below.

You can be the exception and hear 20-20k and still not know what you are hearing. Conversely a person may only have 75% hearing acuity and have a "golden ear". It's not what you have it's how you use it. Or, know how to use it.

A person has to have experience hearing a variety of gear, have a reference which is hopefully live music of the acoustic type. and have the mental ability to discern what they hear. If you've heard a live drum kit or saxophone you should be able to tell which piece of gear gets you closest to that sound. We all hear differently and have our preferences so we are not going to agree usually on that piece. That's why there's more than one audio company.

Some people are more intent listeners. Do you active or passive listen.

You went backward in your listening system and say you are happier listening to Spotify. Good for you if that's what makes you happy. It speaks volumes though about you ever understanding those who active listen with an appreciation and passion for the music and why they'd try to have it sound the best they can.

I read some time ago that a many well known classical music conductors could not hear above 6K, but could instantly pick out a player who was messing up. Damaged hearing from spending lots of time at the focal point of symphony orchestras, but extremely well educated listening skills, and, of course, most of the music resides well below 6K.
