Got an ifi Zen Dac and can hardly tell any difference. I'm new to this

Hello guys. I am new to all this audiophile thing. If you can call me one.
I have the Audioengine a5+ and just bought an ifi Zen DAC , connected the speakers with a 3.5 jack to the Unbalanced slot of the Zen dac , via usb to my PC and a 5v/3a power supply.
I can hardly tell any difference. Can you give some recommendations to have the max potential of my setup?

What were you using before as a DAC? Are you playing MP3, redbook or Hi-rez music?

Compared to what?

What music player are you using. They do sound different. JRiver is midfi sounding compared to HQ player, Roon, Audirvana, Hysolid. Hysolid is free and sounds very good and has a phone app to control it.

What brand cables are you using? USB and Interconnect cables do sound different but they are system dependent.

Lots of variables but it also may boil down to many lower priced DAC's can sound the same. The ifi is a $130 DAC. The are a lot better for a little more money.
