When I was visiting a publisher in Coral Gables in the 80s, the company owner's fancy newly-built house (within commuter distance of Miami) was completely destroyed by a hurricane. Even worse, although he was fully insured, many neighbours were uninsured so their houses were not rebuilt but patched up and occupied by homeless people or squatters. His neighbourhood was permanently ruined.

I can tell ya all about hurricanes and home insurance and building issues vs codes. What gets me, a lot of the "wealthy" people that more money than sense, do not carry home owners or flood insurance. Go figure
