Gillian Welch

Up here on the Front Range of Colorado, the greater Boulder area, there is almost a cult-like worship of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings. You can keep your asexual glam male singers, teeny bopper female singers with no range, and auto-tuned hip hop artists, apparently we like 'em really plaintive, traditional, acoustic and musical above 5500 feet.

Colorado here I come!:D
Except I actually find their music sophisticated. The beauty is in the details.

boots no.2: the lost songs, vol 3

just released ...brilliant, 'nuff said

the 3 LP box set arrives next month -- i had better get that analog source nailed down and in the house ;)

I'm usually not into bluegrass/country much but Gillian Welch is a very pleasant listen. On The Harrow and The Harvest album, the simplicity of the acoustic guitar accompaniment of her musical partner goes a long way to showcase her/their voices without them getting lost and drowned out by a more complex arrangement. I have not listened to any others yet.

I just became aware of her, and scoring some vinyl if it truly is recorded and mastered from analog

I have “The Harrow & The Harvest” on vinyl, and it’s wonderful.

For those who are using digital downloads/CD, if some of the songs doesn't pierce your ear then your digital is done really well. The "The Harrow & The Harvest" is one such album to test your digital front-end. I had some harshness in the midrange area when I started with digital and over the years as I improved the digital side slowly, the harshness has faded away.

in addition to being great artists, gillian welch and dave rawlings own the fabled woodland studio in nashville as well as their own record label, acony records. pretty sure their recording chain is 100% analog, including tape capture.

Gillian Welch, David Rawlings on Nearly Losing Their Life's Work - Rolling Stone

i have their entire LP catalog. each LP states: [album name] was mastered direct from the original tapes through custom Ortofon amplifiers to a Neumann VMS-80 cutting system and plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings

enjoy with confidence ;):D

That confirms my interpretation as well.

Good to see she has built a site, selling music and merchandise.

I scored this The Harrow & The Harvest and Soul Journey on 150 gram vinyl and see the new box set is coming out which I’ll order as well.

email, notice received just now from Acony;

You are receiving this email because you preordered
Gillian Welch & David Rawlings' Boots No. 2: The Lost Songs boxset on vinyl LP. We wanted to update you on the current status of your order.

We sincerely apologize for the continued delay in getting the boxsets completed and shipped. We strive to deliver the best sounding and highest quality vinyl products possible, and through a perfect storm of mastering complications for the vinyl package, shipping delays due to the current pandemic and production setbacks in record pressing that are plaguing the entire industry, we are sad to say you will have to wait a little bit longer.

We are just as disappointed as you to not have these boxsets in your hands by now, and Acony is working as hard as our tiny little record label can work to get them to you as soon as possible. Our expected ship date is now March. If that significantly changes down the road, we’ll be sure to update you again.

i ordered and paid for it in September (2020).

Got mine. At first I thought I had received the wrong thing. They send the three discs in the same box as LPs

i assume you are referring to receiving the CD set, not the LP which was the subject of the email notice?

i do not see a turntable listed in your system list.
