Gillian Welch

just got a shipping notice from acony records that the boots #2 LP box is now on its way -- should arrive friday.

These are all AAA recordings.

Good God don’t buy them on CD. Buy a turntable!

Anyone who’s compared All The Good Times Are Past & Gone on vinyl (quite rare now) and CD, knows the CD blows. They must use one heck of a shitty A2D converter. I played the CD first and thought “this album sounds like shit”. Then I played the vinyl and holy Mother of God....what a difference.

I’m imaging the box set will be the same.

lmao!! i bought the LPs in just in the anticipation of adding analog -- i have their entire LP catalog, along with ~30 other titles. all are still sealed and sitting on the shelf waiting patiently.

how messed up is that?

actually, i am working my way through some system changes which should easily facilitate the addition of an analog sidecar while keeping the box count low. so, maybe i am playing my LPs by year end. for some reason my system just seems to evolve at a glacial speed.

Not messed up at all. I watched a video the other day of a guy that bought a TT and started buying MOFI One Steps and UHQR, MMJ, Classic Records and other stuff for about 10 years. He figured he had spent $20k as he tracked all his purchases in Discogs. He then got a job requiring him to move and travel a lot, so he sold the collection to one guy for $40k.

But I don’t buy to sell. I have the entire MMJ numbered collection (about 175 records) and their SRX collection. That’s worth a few pennies. I have many records worth in the thousands, some are Beatles first UK pressings (mint) others are just shit I bought like that Gillian Welch which goes for around $350 now? I think I paid $30 for it last year! Supply and demand I guess. I have other super rare pressings like the first Japanese pressing of DSOTM. But again, I bought this stuff in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, etc. Heck, I remember buying the first MOFI One Step (Santana Abraxxas) for $100 and bitched and moaned like you can’t believe. It’s now selling for nearly $3000. But why would I sell it? I listen to it and love the album.

Once you get you’re table, you’ll crack those babies open and refer back to this thread. Your listening habits will totally change - just wait and see.

thanks for the post and encouragement! definitely need to work faster on this project.

You do!

I’m sitting here waiting for my 11am customer to arrive and I’m playing my Classic Records Test Pressing of Satchmo Plays King Oliver. 1959 recording. Just phenomenal.

Amazing recording that seems to bring Satchmo back to life! Jeff Joseph (of Joseph Audio) used to demo a 45RPM pressing of "St. James Infirmary" at shows to stunned attendees!

I have that one too. It’s just one side. This test pressing is great because it’s the whole album and Classic Records to boot.

My copy is supposed to arrive today AND I am setting up my new turntable. I’m hopeful the first LP played will be this one.
