We moved from the Alabama Gulf Coast to Seattle this past Christmas to both retire from medical practice, and provide baby sitting services for my grand-daughter.
I had a small room in Mobile measuring 9.5 x 14 feet with a ceiling that sloped from left to right. Nice carpeting and it required a fair amount of room treatment.
New room is more than twice that size! I won the lottery with my wife choosing this house. I was afraid I was going to have a listening room using only headphones...
Initial pictures of the room. with the blue walls. Then one with the room repainted, and split unit HVAC (and new circuit and ethernet point). The floor is a radiant, with hot water circulation. (yes I replaced the boiler already) There are 3 radiant floors, and one stand alone radiator in the house. Heat gain from all that southern facing glass can be an issue.
Lastly, I took a picture of the system playing from the MSB DAC. The pre-amp clicks relays when trying to power up, but will not turn on. I will look at tubes etc. tomorrow. I am praying that there was no actual damage to the unit during the move.
Building some Ikea Kallax units.
More pics as the system progresses. This is just a preliminary setup to hear music.
I will say, when I first got it to play, I was under impressed with the sound stage. I was not sure how it would change from small room to large room. I noticed good wide sound stage, but no definition in the central sound stage. Remedied with changing the phase of one channel (Its hard to determine + and - on both my speakers and amps. I need to put some red dots on those). Very sweet with correct phase.
Very eclectic house, clearly. The vertical wall connected to the ceiling is twisted, and the window is installed crooked. This is on purpose, and much more apparent in the room above, which is our bedroom. On the other hand, the gentleman that did the 2 add ons to the 1922 home built it like a tank, with plywood behind most of the drywall, and large heavy wooden beams, and 1 inch bolts, and iron rods throughout the new parts. There is a bedroom and small living room in the front of the house that are original, and are indeed lathe and plaster.
We are having fun moving in. Probably move out of the rental house over this week.
