Genesis Speakers

given the right environment.... one of the BEST

Agree...I have heard the Genesis 1.1s set up superbly and it was tremendous.

Annapolis -- by the way...great system!!! Big fan of CJ as fellow GAT owner. Big fan of big speakers with Subs. I am most curious as to your Light Harmonic...it is one of the most intriguing digital sources (assuming that's what you've got) I have read about...tell us any more about it?

Don't want to hijack the thread.........

Light Harmonic is the best digital I've heard, It replaced an EMM Labs DAC2x. I've heard almost all the contenders except the Trinity. We can start another thread to continue if you want.....

Yeah, I didn't think so... ;) Funny this is, I have no idea what happened to these. They rocked back in the day. Sometimes I wished I still had them.

That Genesis was a different company and I believe they were based in New England. They used the Focal inverted dome tweeter which the other Genesis company never did. When the original Genesis company was still in business, so was Infinity.

Arnie Nudell founded Infinity and later left Infinity and started GENESIS with Paul McGowan. He made the Genesis 1 which is the direct descendent of the IRS-V.

Gary Koh bought Genesis from Arnie and created GENESIS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES, who made the Genesis 1.1 and presently makes the Genesis 1.2, the 1.2 Dragon and a few other models.

Genesis Physics Corp has no relationship to either Arnie Nudell's Genesis or Gary Koh's Genesis Advanced Technologies. That was a completely different company that made lo-fi speakers.

To set the configurations straight, the IRS-V has 12 EMIM midranges, 24 front facing and 12 rear facing EMIT tweeters per side and 6-12" woofers with dedicated 2KW power amplifiers on each side.

The Genesis 1.2 and Dragons (presently in production) have a pure ribbon midrange and 20 front facing ring ribbon tweeters and 6 rear facing ring ribbon tweeters. There are 12-12" woofers for each left and right side. 6 face the front and 6 face the rear. there are 24-12" woofers in total. The woofers are powered in pairs by six channels of 400W amplifiers per side, 2400 watts total on each left and right side.

They can be ordered bi-amplified or tri-amplified with active crossovers.

EDIT: the Genesis 1.2 has six channels of 500 watt amplifiers per pair of woofers (not 400 as initially stated) making 3000 watts per left and right channels for the bass. I haven't heard these yet and don't know any US dealers having them on display. I was told there is a dealer in Hong Kong with them on display.

Top Shelf gear..... I don't know who Gary pissed off here in USA. It's a damm shame they don't get more publicity/exposure. Genesis speakers have improved greatly over the years. Only caveat, is that the big ones need ROOM to stretch their legs. If my room was a little bigger.......

Well well well being a panel guy myself i am very happy to see what speaker it would take to replace the Magnepan 20.7 no other than the big Genesis, well sir you have very very good taste i am not a box lover but for these i could make an exception :) Genesis 1.2.jpg

One of my early setups was a set of Acoustat 1 + 1s with a Sub, back then had a smallish room 18 x 11, had EAR 509s/Melos Preamp, and a Pink Triangle turntable with ET2 tonearm, believe it was a Accuphase cart on it. Sounded heavenly..

Try Gary backwards there Bob! These speakers are not helping me at all, I'm looking at them & starting to wonder what they sound like.....

Great stuff...yes, if you wanted to start a new thread on Light Harmonic, that would be great. I'll see you there! Very excited to learn more.

Gary - you are one of the few who owns the mighty IRS V...I think it would be fascinating (for me certainly) to understand more about how the IRS sounds in comparison to other cone-driven or electrostatics that you have heard. There is something about 4 towers that back 3 economic cycles ago that seemed to reflect designers' all-out efforts...and we are seeing that again in this economic boom. Genesis 1.2, Nola Grand VI, Tidal 4-tower, Marten 4-tower, Gryphon 4-tower, even Wilson is starting to demonstrate XLF with dual Thor a lot more...I suppose something about dedicated low-end structures plus mid/highs?

Any comments about what you experience here would be much appreciated...and hopefully considered highly relevant to this 'Genesis' thread as few have heard these mighty 4-tower speakers in any generation. I have heard the Genesis 1.1s and am happy to chime in as we go.

I have not heard the Genesis 2.2 Jr. speakers. I have lived for a while with the the Genesis 350SEs and I can tell you they are superb speakers. From top to bottom they are all there. They are so resolving that you are now listening to the recording's quality and not identifying short comings of the speakers and audio system. They are at the end of an evolution on Infinity designs that got better and better over time. I have no doubt that the newer Genesis designs are also fantastic. They are a continuation of Arnie Nudell's work of which I'm a big fan. As these designs evolve one problem is that their prices have been elevated to the level where you have to be very well off to afford them. Therefore, not many people get the chance to enjoy them. There are some bargains that come up from time to time on these used systems that are a fantastic value when looking at what Genesis is asking for their gear. I just bought the IRS Vs that are on another thread and have these two systems that I'm going to sell. I'm offering them locally on Craigslist first they they will move to Audiogon next month if anyone is interested.

Cheers
