Gear that randomly reacts to remote commands from other equipment's remotes

I've had several different pieces of gear that reacted randomly to my Directv remote. ARC would also occasionally intercept commands from a Sony remote, and Absolare volume control will react to Pioneer and EMM as well as Dtv. Playback and Pass would randomly switch inputs, the former much more often than the latter -- and the PBD was almost 90 degrees away from the Dtv box.

Has anyone who's experienced this found a solution that's a little more elegant than a piece of cardboard temporarily blocking an IR input? Anyone had any luck reprogramming the offending gear?

I've had this issue with a Jeff Rowland integrated amp. After a while I got used to this behavior... :D

It's a tough one; if the remote of one product doesn't have his own selectable remote codes (a switch under or near the battery compartment), you are @ the mercy of other similar components from the same manufacturer. You cannot escape that, even with a universal remote control.

I don't know what to suggest because I'm in the same boat and I've tried everything.
Always look first in the battery compartment of your remote controls, without the batteries, for a switch with three positions. Short of that ...

Thanks. A place to start. I've had the problem with a range of equipment in different environments for years. Glad to know it's not just me and I'm emitting some sort of strange rays from my person (well, .....). Manufacturers have not been particularly interested in a solution, responses ranging from "Never heard of that" to [shrug].
